My wife's only complaint...

..about our new TSX that is. She said she wishes the doors unlocked automatically when turning the car off. Is there a way to program the door locks to unlock automatically? TIA

Even my old Tacoma locked the doors upon startup and then unlocked them after I turned it off. Guess its lame, but oh well...

not w/o adding something to the car, maybe a car alarm can do it... that's pretty petty though. either don't lock the doors when you drive or just hit the button

Directed makes a widget that can add that - it's probably about $75 installed at a good car alarm shop, or $15 from Autotoys on sale:
http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/DO...KIT_p_190.html

If you don't want to pay for it installed you can install it using the Security wiring info sticky in the AV section...

If you press only once, it won't beep. You do know if you have to press only once, right?

As for the auto-unlocking ... why are you driving with your doors locked? I remember reading something a while ago about how you shouldnt do this as it makes rescuers have a hard time getting to you if you are in an accident.

chances are if you're in that bad of a wreck that you need to be pulled out the doors going to need cutting to open up anyway. I'd rather have them locked in case anyone tries to open the door on me. Doubt it'd ever happen but ya never know.

I remember one time in Miami, I was almost a victim of a car jacking because a guy sneaked up and opened the door of my rental car while I was waiting at a stoplight. Now I lock the doors first thing when I get into a car.

locking the doors is second nature to me. thats why acura put that feature where u tap the door lock on the drivers side and locks everything. better safe that sorry, and yeah if theyre going to pull u outa a wreck theyd either bust the windows n cut off the roof. anything less serious of cutting apart the car i would hope ud walk away from, unless your air bags arent working. cuz in that case youll be bale to get the door open on your own

Wow, no offense but this sounds like the ultimate in laziness...

Next thing you know we will want seat belts that undo themselves and groceries that walk out of the trunk and straight into the frig.

I didn't realize that the power automatic door lock button was such a pain in the @$$.

For Pete's sake I had cars with 4 manaul door locks and no power windows...this car is living it up for me.

I'm still in awe by hit the fob twice all the windows go down--AMAZING!

Na...If its bad enough that you have to be rescued, a locked door is the last thing your going to worry about. And besides, windows can be smashed.

Nah, it's not being petty nor is it laziness; it's what she's used to. The two cars we had before, her Passat wagon and my Audi TT, both had automatic locks. They locked at 8 mph, and unlocked when the ignition was turned off. I know some people hate automatic locks but we found them yet another convenience.
Not having them doesn't diminish our love for our new TSX one itoa. Not even two iotas.
Have a Happy Holiday everyone.

I installed an alarm in my old civic with that auto lock/unlock function. And the alarm is very cheap also.... so I'm sure you can find one for TSX.

My wife already has me trained to be her automatic door unlocker. Yours probably will have you trained before long, too. No big deal, it's just the price we pay to be married.

Merry Christmas.

I'm late to this thread, but regarding the problem with locked doors in an accident - my previous car (a BMW 318ti) automatically unlocked the doors if the airbags were fired. I wouldn't be surprised if the TSX does the same thing.

What if you are unconscious and your car is on fire and the firetruck hasnt arrived yet (so you are relying on bystanders)? I know its an unlikely situation but I thought I would just throw that out there. I never drive with my doors locked but we dont really have car jackings around here.

honestly, i was a cadet on the first aid squad in my old town. (basically the emts and paradmedics). i rode along with the first responders often. Most times we were first on the scene, and yeah a few accidents, ive busted out windows. bystanders broke the windows....
ever wonder why acura left that little stub of the lock easy to grab? and not the the VW where they disapper? all u hafta do is bust that window with something, even a fist, and pull up the lock and ull get it open.

a locked door is almost the last thing you need to worry about in a crash. more than likely if u cannot get outa your vehical its not becuase the doors are locked, its cuz the front of the car is crushing your legs, or even the door may be smashed in.

honestly the TSX is an EXTREMELY safe car. acura/honda really thought alot about this car, and it shows. its won numerous awards and what not. look at the unfortunate people that really put honda engineering to the test and walked away from a crash. i remmeber reading here about some guy that got rear ended at 65 ot 70 mph. he got outa of the TSX and WALKED over to the police. yeah he might have had brusies or what not but he wasnt really bleeding and the most part was still alive......

i trust that my car is safe and i know that from reading all of this. although you are only as safe as you are, so locking the doors to keep someone out or keeping your car in top shape are really going to improve your cars safety... remmeber things in the cabin DO become projectiles.

Question. Do the doors lock automatically at a certain speed, becuase my TSX doesnt. If so how do I get it to do that?

So sorry to hear about that. That is just plainly wrong.

I always drive with locked doors. I haven't had anyone sneak up on my car yet, but it is just a second nature thing that I do. The door does not automaticlly lock/unlock does not bother me. I will lock them manually even if it's automatic, just like some prefer to hear the alarm to sound by pushing the FOB twice to ensure the car is secured.

I just wish there was an unlock on the drivers door handle like on the passenger side.

With respect to the doors being locked while driving, I always do this. Much safer with respect to oxygen thiefs (criminals/car jackers). If a carjacker is willing to break out my window while I am in the car, I will be able to better articulate in court why I ran him over 34 times, or just got out and shot him. just my
