My sisters totaled TSX - Pics included
Well, my sister and I used to have matching TSX's... Only difference was hers was an '05 and mine an '04 and her windows were tinted, mine has a Comptech RSB, oh and we live 800 miles from each other. So anyway, shes driving down a 4 lane highway in the left lane, a truck in the right lane is turning off on a side road, and a car on that same side road pulled out (being blocked by the truck) and bam!.. she didn't even have time to hit the brakes. She has a broken hand and finger, and a really banged up knee. She thinks her knee actually broke the steering wheel.
They got up to $22,000 damage just in the front end before they stopped counting and totaled it out. She has an '06 on the way that will be delivered within a week.
Here are some pics taken with her camera phone...

Yikes. sorry to see this happen. Glad she is somewhat OK! How fast was she driving? The damage doesnt look that bad considering the description you provided.

Glad all that's broken is a finger. Something to be said for 5-star frontal crash ratings. I had a similar deal in my A4 a few years back. Unfortunately, her premium may go up due to "not at fault accident". Happened to me. Insurance companies look for any reason to raise rates.

Major Bummer. Glad she's generaly OK.
On the plus side - It looks like the TSX is one tough little bastard. Looking at the people part of the car it looks to be still squared up. No broken windshield, rippled roof, etc. I see the bags went off on the impact side. Although I don't plan on testing it myself I glad to see the safety design work as advertised.

I'm glad she's mostly ok and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I'm curious, was she wearing her seatbelt?

That's whu I was asking about the seatbelts. I'm wondering if she slid under the airbag? This is possible if you're not belted in.

Thanks for all the kind words!
To answer some questions...
She was probably going about 60 mph, not sure how much she slowed (if any) before the impact.
She was wearing her seatbelt, I guess she has quite a bit of swelling where the belt was.
The accident was just a few days ago so she is just now starting the process of dealing with insurance. The other driver was definatly at fault and she was insured so that's good. Both her and the other driver have State Farm so I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse. She also had GAP insurance.
As far as inside damage, the steering wheel was broken, the windshield cracked, the glove box was stuck closed and the CD player just displayed error when trying to play. But yes, I was quite impressed how the inside looked based on what she had told me.

The money is in the airbags, engine/engine components, drivetrain, seats and such, and of course car body parts.

Glad to see your sister is okay.
Things could have been a lot worse for her, believe me. I'm a firefighter/paramedic and just last week we had a fatal. The lady was the passenger of a 2005 Accord. This proves that no matter how safe the car is, things can still happen. Considering the TSX is smaller than the Accord, I'd say your sister was very lucky. Granted, this Accord was run over by a semi (yes, run over...you'd have to see it to believe it, I didn't get any pictures of the car though).

Yikes! I hope your sister gets well soon. The good news is that the TSX provided enough protection to prevent her from being more seriously injured. Her car was crunched. It could of been worse.
You really have to be careful on the roads these days.

something like this happened in PA recently. A truck driver couldn't stop for traffic on I-80 west in central PA. the truck plowed into a bunch of cars, sending numerous people to the hospital. They had to life flight like 4-6 people to different hospitals.
The truck ended up landing on a volvo (the model escapes me). long story short, no one can believe that the guy that was in the volvo is alive. the car was demolished. but the area around the driver protected him prertty well. he left in a helicopter, but lived.
