just looked at the part numbers.

The TL and 4 door EX, EX-N, and LX-N Accord share the same exact Immobilization unit which is part number 39730-SDA-A01

The TSX and 4 door Accord LX and DX share the same exact Immobilization unit which is part number 39730-SDA-A11

didn't check the 2 door parts numbers, but i'm sure they are the same too

that means they are identical units. the weirdest thing is that all of these cars (TL, TSX and Accord) share the same steering/key switch which is part number 35130-SAA-J51. this is where the key goes into(key cylinder)

you can search for the part numbers here to confim what i am posting

that is wild... because the keys are totally different between the Accord and the TSX... and I mean before and after they are cut. I don't have a micrometer, but by site, you can see the Accord key isn't as wide as the TSX key, but it is thicker.

You are a wealth of knowledge!! Great research.

moda - i'm wondering if you got the locksmith to cut a copy of the TSX key into your blank accord, it 'might' fit and turn???

(sorry you're the gineua pig - take one for the team??)

I used to work at a locksmith many years ago and the Accord key would need a channel cut down it on both sides and the a second area channeled out for the profile of the key, then the key set cut into it. If you take a look at my pics, you see that the Accord key is like a chunk of metal and you would have to completely cut out all the details of the Acura key in it. More than likely it would cost more than it is worth.

Is the point to avoid doing this mod and just have the Accord key in total modified?

I have put special attention to stressing my modded key out and after 2 days no signs of any stress on the epoxy'd area.

i totally believe and have faith in your mod.

that said, i was throwing out suggestions on further hacking the accord key. sorry, i have no idea work involved in slimming down the key, or locksmith workings.

I wasn't question... just explaining.

BTW, I found a pic of the key on the JDM Accord brochure.

It is exactly like the USDM Accord key sans the panic button.

makes no sense, the keys are completly different. i have a feeling the steering switch is nothing more than a hole with a button that locks/unlocks the steering when the key is inserted and removed. it's not the actual key cylinder. thats a completly different part

Very interesting. It sounds like it since the keys are radically different. I think your assumption is correct sort of having a cylinder to pull apart.

if my fiance doesn't want to go out tonight, then i will pull the TL apart and see how that part works, i would do the TSC too, but i don't think my brother would enjoy that. me installing Bluetooth was enough in that car

1. your new key - technically, I don't need a Acura key with the chip inside. I only need a copy of the original key so I can open door and turn the ignition switch. This is the key that will be cut up and inserted into the Accord keyfob.

2. Master key - This is one of the working original Acura keys.

3. Cut up the non-original key and inserted in the Accord keyfob.

4. Follow the programming instruciton with the Acura original master key and insert new key with the Acccord keyfob and chip for programming.

If I'm understanding this correctly, then all you need is the Accord keyfob, a copy of the key. No need to remove any transponder chip as you are programming the one in the Accord keyfob. Right?
Okay, the programming method didn't work but the copy key works great. Here are some pics. As you can see, the copy key allows an almost exact replacement including the reuse of the back cover screw. I simply removed enough plastic on top of the key and remove the old key from the cavity, then shaped the new key the same way and fit it back it. I just need to get the transponder chip programmed perhaps by a locksmith.

MrChad is going to make one for his 00 Accord, so if that works, then I would think it should work for the 99 CL.

Several posts back someone said it wouldn't work for the earlier generation TL and RL, but I don't know if it uses the same alarm as the CL. I'm tempted to buy one at the dealer and if it doesn't work I can just return it.

It would be easy enough to test. Give it a shot. You might find out something we didn't know about. I don't remember that post though.

well i am right where JTso is at.

I went and had a key cut at Lowes (hardware store) for about $2, but i have been calling locksmiths and they are wanting from $90 - $120 to program the car with the the new transponder chip. I am going to try calling again tomorrow.

The SDD programmer seems to be about $5000, but I think the process is rather simple for the locksmith. I will keep everyone posted.

no i dont believe so, if you read my previous posts i found you need to use an SDD programming tool and JTso verified that the instructions that rbf351 gave didnt work.

from what I have read this SDD tool has replaced the on board programming of transponders.

That's just as expensive as going to the dealer. I'm sure it can be done cheaper.

i should hope so...i am starting (hoping ) to think that they were quoting me those prices for an after hour emergency price (i was calling after 6pm)

I think they just hook the SDD up to the car and add the new transponder.

I PM'd JTso to find out which bit he used to get the screw out. He said a #0, which might explain why I stripped mine out. I started off with a #00.

SDD tool is needed to program the chip in the keys (in this case, the Accord key/remote).

Best way to do this mod IS to cut up a master key, and use the metal part and the immobilizer chip from that, inside the Accord key fob.

You can also cut up the valet key for the immobilizer chip in it, and have a key cut from your master key, that way you are only destroying the valet key (for people that want to keep 2 original keys).

The programming instructions for the immobilizer chip listed on page 4 (I think) will work, but it only lets the car start something like TEN times, then it will stop working. Somebody go talk to a good Honda/Acura tech if you don't believe me. The only way to do this right is with the SDD tool from Honda.

I hacked up one of my master keys and used the Accord key fob, TSX key, TSX chip. Works perfect.

Yeah, I stated this before, but EVERY DAY since I've done this mod I'm reminded how much I love it. It simply hasn't gotten old. I smile everytime I go to open the car.

Yes, the Honda dealer should be able to do it as they all use the same HDS tool (Honda Diagnostic System).

Additonal info on the HDS...
