my first ding {noooooo}

not even owning the car for more than a day, my fault, a shopping cart slammed into my passenger side door giving it my first minor ding. i know i get one free ding removal but is it worth it? i don't want them to do anything crazy like drill small holes, etc... to get the ding out but what do you think? if they can do it painless i'll go back to the dealer and have it done but if its some ordeal maybe i'll just live and learn.

is the paint scratched up? If not, i've heard that those paintless dent removals are excellent. I myself got one cause of people who were inconsiderate and dinged my door....so im planning to fix mine this summer using PDR.

yeah its a real bummer. its hard to see, you have to be at the right angle and have the right lighting to see the minor dent but geez guys, i just bought it two days ago. TWO DAYS AGO!

what's the trick in never getting a ding on your car? is it even possible?

unfortunately, it's really not possible...you can try parking away from everyone else, but someone would still park next to you.

YUp! Same thing happened to me 6 months ago at some #*$&@#$ ghetto a$$ super market. I didn't know the parking lot was on an incline..... so out of nowhere a fu$*$& shopping cart comes hauling ass at 90MPH out of nowhere.... I didn't see it coming til it was too late...

it hit my driver fender at the top.... the impact sounded 10X worse than the damage.... but the damage was very noticeable especially in the sun... anyways...I got it fixed at Dent Wizard for $99 USD =] ANd yes, this is paintless dent repair...

I've been lucky. I can park beside SUV's and stuff without any problems. People here are courteous. If I'm in an unfamiliar place, I'll park farther from the entrance (less foot traffic, and more free parking spots). If I can, I'll park at the left-most end of a strip of parking spots. That way, the driver that parks next to me will be more cautious when he gets out (passengers don't usually care as much about the car).

Combination of luck and being careful where you park. I'm never afraid to walk. I just look at it as an opportunity to get a little workout in

All that said, I posted in another thread how I've noticed people will park next to you no matter how many empty spots there are around you, so I don't know. Luck definitely plays a part.

yeah, the free dent removal I think is Dent Wizard. I feel stupid calling the dealer so soon about it. Maybe I should wait. I'll take a pic of it later and post it. Its so very minor but it eats at me right now.

How did it happen on day 1? stupid me. I went grocery shopping and it started to downpour really bad. My wife wanted me to pull up right to the entrance of the grocery store... so i do. Help put groceries into new TSX and when I took a case of water out of the cart the weight made it move. I just hear my wife scream and then a "thud". I just looked at the cart and just shook my head. No sense in snappin about it.

I've had mine for 6 months and no dings. That's because I only drive it once or twice a week, and, when I park in a lot, I find a space so far away that absolutely no one will want to park next to me.

But lazy me, the extra 1/2 mile of walking to the store or wherever (o.k., maybe it felt like 1/2 a mile) was getting old. So recently, (I probably went overboard), I self-installed 3M clear shield on all my doors. This will really lower the likelihood of a ding, and I have started to park "normally." But then again, I see that nowadays every other car is an SUV with really high doors, which can ding above my shields. Oh well, we'll have to see how my dingless strategy works.

I've had my car for 16 months, 42000 miles and had no dings...until yesterday. They left black paint on the ding so I'll need to buff that out before I take it to PDR. Made me sad, but then I saw a 2 inch scrape where the same person probably pushed a shopping cart against my car...took some clear coat clean off. No idea how to fix that, I have a 2 inch x 1/4 inch scrape with no clear coat.

If you have to parallel park be prepared to say goodbye to your new bumper paint. Whenever possible I park in the farthest corner of the parking lot. But certain places only have street parking which is parallel parking hell. Too many people using the touch & feel parking technique here!

I'm actually gonna park in a municipal lot. so maybe if i get there early i can pick a spot that is safe. do you suggest using the club?

Funny to see we all have different theories about where to park best. I usually park on the other (right-most) end because according to my theory a driver is always in the car and a passenger not, so the chances are less someone slams a door open :-) Technique works for me, had the car for 3,5 years and no dents (knock on wood).

Did have a dent because my 7 year old son accidently slammed the passenger door into a pole about 6 months ago (auch !). It was a small dent but exactly on the breakline of the door. Had it removed with the PDR technique and it's gone totally. It's great, they didn't even have to take the doorpanel off. Just rolled down my window and went in with the tools from the top. Paid 60 euro's for it.

Eeer... the 3M shield is made to protect against paint chips and debri. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the 3M shield (clear bra) stuff that people put on their hoods will do 0 from door dings from other drivers.

Yup got my first ding today. I don't know where it happened either a few days ago at the outlet mall in Aurora. Dang, I will never shop there again. At first when I came back I didn't see any dings, but then today on my left passenger side door I saw it, my first ding, I was mad at first!!!

How much do you think PDR costs for 1 ding?

Well, I'll have to see. It probably won't help with a hard-swing hit. It'll probably leave a small dent, but I figure the paint will be protected. I'm thinking more about those lighter love taps by people who didn't think their door would go out that far. It should protect against those, which are more common. If you've never seen the clear shield, it's actually pretty thick. So, yeah, I'll see if it works.

wait until you collect more dings... because you will save money when you go to PDR to get it fixed..especially if its on the same panel...

glad to say that Dent Wizard pulled out my ding perfectly. You can not even tell there was a ding. I watched the guy do it and it seems to be an art. I liked how careful he was when sticking the tools into the door and using a pad to protect the window. but i'd say it took him about 20 mins to "massage" the ding out. Can't even tell it was there!
