My first damage to my TSX :-(
Son of a f**kin bitch!!!!
Today I was pulling out of a parking space and I backed into some wooden railroad ties that were too low for me to see.
The good news is that you really can't see the damage unless you bend over and look under the rear of the car.
The bad news is that it looks ugly if you do bend over and look at the rear of the car.
What I f**ked up is the "Rear Under Cover" (as it is called in the service manual) and can be seen in this image here in TOV's new undercar review incidentally...

Here is what I did to it...

You can't see it in the pic, but it is smashed a bit more to the right as well. It sure didn't take much to do that damage. I didn't hit it that hard. You can tell that it isn't a very strong piece and from what I gather its sole purpose is for airflow under the car.
I am hoping that plastic undercover doesn't cost too much. The only thing that hold it on are 2 bolts and 2 clips. So I can probably replace that myself. Although there isn't much I can do about the edge of the bumper except maybe use some touch up paint on it.
From the standing position you can't see the damage, and even if you crouch down like I did in this shot...

It isn't too bad. But still, not even 3 months old.
(sigh)

I'm sorry George. Just be thankful the damage wasn't any worse. These things happen man. It could have been worse, you could have been smashed by an uninsured driver...

I feel your pain. First-time damage to a new ride always sucks. But others are right- you're fortunate that the railroad ties weren't 2 feet to the right or left, or one of your tailpipes would be toast.

George this looks like the perfect opertunity for a modification!
You could price at a good local body shop what it would cost to maybe black out the area that is curved in slightly containing the rear markers--when and have the bumper patched. This way you could even keep the OEM factory grey on the bumper and have neat and tasteful mod that is so sutle most will over look it. These are my favorite kind of mods.

Sorry to hear about your accident, George.
It makes me want to consider getting that rear-view
reverse camera that you can hook up to the NAVI screen.

That would have come in handy. Wish I had one.
My question is what do I do about getting it repared? The undercover is simple enough but what about the bumper? Can it be repaired without having the whole thing replaced?

Chad's idea (which sounds great) is another instance of stuff from Chad that goes completely past me.
Oh, I know what, Chad: If we get our cars to Ohio, maybe would you do it for us?
(Only half kidding.)

George, don't worry, I share your pain. Must be something with us Ohio drivers or something.
I was backing into a parking space at church 2 wks ago and whoever built the parking light posts decided to put them right up against the end of the space not to mention the light post disappeared in the back drop.
Anyway, I'm backing up into the space and slowly rolling (THANKFULLY) and BUMP!! Being that I was at church, I asked God to tell me that was a parking block... well, it wasn't. I slowly made my way to the back and sure enough, I damaged my bumper. Luckily it is just some very unnoticeable dimples in the bumper... not paint loss.
WARNING TO ALL WHO BACK INTO SPACES!!!!!
Let that message ring in your ears!!
No wonder there is a rear facing camera available through Japan.. you need one on this car, or at least in Ohio we do.
