I agree that type of behavior is incredibly dangerous. I used to do it when I was younger, and I look back on it now and realize how stupid I was.

KingV, is it comfortable to drive while sitting on a soapbox?

Look, there's nothing wrong with driving "like a little bitch". It's safe and smart. But the whole idea of the "fast" lane is to keep traffic flow smooth. So staying in there when somebody wants to pass is the REAL "bitch" choice.

Why not shift into the right lane, let the speed demon pass and move back? It's good road manners and good karma. You'll add maybe 40 seconds to your trip.

For chrissakes THE LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING ONLY!!!!!!!!!

KingV your attitude just causes road rage. Move over to the right and drive slow over there. If you get stuck behind slower traffic, pull out to the left when it is safe to do so and make your pass. Then get back in the right lane.

While the laws may differ form place to place, most people (like kingv obviously) dont realize that its usually ILLEGAL to drive in the left lane and not yeild to people wanting to pass.

So in addition to it being annoying, causing accidents, and causing road rage...

it may also be illegal.

Perhaps I made it sound like I just sit sit in the left lane going 60 in a 65. If it's an open road, I'll generally be in the middle lane so people can pass and merge. If it's crowded I'll generally be in the left lane, if anybody's ever lived in the DC Area, they'll know that 95 get's crowded enough there that pretty much all lanes are needed for regular traffic (I no longer live in DC, but it's a stretch of road most people are familiar with). I generally set my cruise control about 7 or 8 over the speed limit. If the road is relatively busy, this is fast enough to continually pass other cars.

In these conditions, how is someone who's trying to go 15 or 20 over entitled to have every car in the lane move out of the way for them? I certainly don't think they are. If anything they should suck it up and just go with the flow. I can see your argument if someone is just bagging ass in the passing lane, going 5 under or whatever, but if you're going respectably quick, I don't think it should be an issue.

Take two seconds to move out the way....let someone pass even if there are other cars ahead and let them deal with someone else and the road raging idiots....don't be a road hog, or play road police...not fair to those of us who are a little quicker and obey all the rules of the road..........except for speed limits!

I certainly see your point, but can't decide if I agree or not. Re-reading my old posts I think I overstated and sounded more preachy than I meant to. I guess one of you will have to drive with me and tell me if I'm being polite enough or not!

It's all good...besides most have a thing about taking things out of text on this forum anyways, or reading into it too much. Guess that's the bad thing about typing, posting, THEN reading what you wrote...by then, too late!

I think "Slower Traffic Keep Right" pretty much applies anywhere you live and drive in the US and Canada. So, if you are going 90 in the fast lane and someone comes up behind you doing 95, you are the slower traffic and you should merge over and let them pass. The fact that you are already going faster than the speed limit shouldn't matter. Just my

VSA or any kind of stability control is just not gonna save you (in time) if you made too big a mistake. If you have experience recovering a car going out of control or into a spin, then you'll understand what I am talking about. Sometimes the law of physics just outplayed all electronics. I once ride with an incredibly inexperienced driver in a BMW 330i through an autocross course, and even with the stability control on, the car understeered like crazy throughout the whole course. But when the instructor took over, the car just cut into the corner, with even a little oversteer to aid turning (and without trigerring the stability control).

I say, (with all due respect) most of the responsibility lies on the driver, not the car.

No doubt VSA will not overcome the laws of physics. It will not always be able to save you, but it helps..if even just a little.

Case in point, 2 people on this board have reported losing control of their cars and crashing, and both had VSA turned off. Just some food for thought.

This argument isn't logical. VSA being turned off and a crash occuring doesn't prove VSA would have prevented an accident. However, if someone had lost control with VSA on, VSA is activated, then they regain control, this would be a case for using VSA.

When did I say it "proved" anything? I said food for thought. I.E. its worth noting and adds some weight to the notion that having VSA on is safer. Saying VSA does nothing is just silly.

an independent study by Mercedes-Benz in 2002 shows that ESC helped lower the accident rate by 15 percent in Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Let me point you to an old thread I started. When you have a minute take a look at the videos.
