My 2004 TSX just hit 100,000 Miles!

My 2004 Acura TSX that I bought new on 4-28-2003 just hit 100,000 miles today 6-3-2012 (9 years, 6 months, 6 days). I had about 8 issues with the car. Most of the issues happened early on which I guess could be attributed to first model year type issues. Since I purchased it that Acura took care of for free. Those issues were annoying since my dealer is on the other side of town, but overall it has been a excellent and reliable car.

The problems I have had...
  1. Water in headlight assembly (twice).
  2. Trunk wiring harness (recall notice)
  3. Center console lights went out.
  4. Engine belt issue (recall notice for that as I remember)
  5. Excessive wear on front brake pads that Acura had a notice about and fixed for free.
  6. Driver seat moved forward under braking.
  7. Side airbag disabled due to faulty seatbelt switch (fixed on 12-28-2011)
  8. Passenger rear door lock servo broke (that I will have to pay for).

I believe it is a known issue so they should fix it for free for you (they did for me). I am not exactly sure what is involved in the fix, but they have to take the seat out I think and make some adjustment. I know a number of others have had the issue with the 2004's at least so maybe someone else can comment on the details.

Congrats, 400k more and you could be the next Tyson Huggie.

Now seriously. I'm looking forward to hitting that mark, I'm at 56k but I doubt we'll see it before it gets replaced. At 4k miles a year, it'll take another 11 years to get there.

The seat movement is a common problem, and it's not limited to the 04 models (twice in my 05, the second time it wasn't fixed). It's not an adjustment, they need to replace the whole seat assembly, and I can't imagine that Acura (Honda) will replace anything on a 9 y/o car for free. This was obviously (to me) a supplier problem and it's unfortunate that Honda must have decided to continue to use the faulty seat assemblies even after they must have known about the problem. I suppose it's understandable though since I'm going to assume that most with the problem (like me) have decided to live with it.

Wow, someone with an older car than me....My in-service date was 8/2/2003. I've had #3,5,6, and 7 though I just live with the slight seat rock. I'm at 161k miles and she still runs smoothly and has never left me stranded. I hope she will last to be my 13 year old daughter's first car in a few years.

Very nice. Congratulations. I see that you have the meteor silver metallic color. That is a rare color but beautiful. That is one of my favorite colors for the TSX. It looks specially nice on a clear sunny day but it is so rare to see.

One question:

What exactly is the engine belt issue in number 4? Are you talking about the serpentine belt that runs the alternator and power steering pump?

Wow. I just noticed that you bought the car in April 28, 2003. If i remember correctly, the TSX started hitting the showrooms in the beginning of that month of April 2003 so you bought yours very close to its initial release in North America. I still remember going to the showroom at night and watching somebody test driving it in April 2003. The thing that made the biggest impression on me was the BEAUTIFUL instrument panel lit up at night. I knew right there and then, even without driving it, that I would be an owner someday!!

Think I might have beat you by a few days with in service date. Something like 4/18/03. Just hit 93k miles. Was wife's car, but she now has new odyssey and I get the tsx.

100k Club

My 2004 TSX is well over the 100k mark and still a solid car. Only had an AC compressor case crack and it was fixed under warrante.

I have taught 4 of my kids to drive a stick shift with and still the clutch lasted to 98k miles.

Can you elaborate on the airbag issue? I have an intermittent airbag light that I need to have checked out - gun shy to go in to the dealer because of how much an airbag issue might cost me. How much was the fix?

I think it's becoming a common issue as I've read other forum members as well as myself having intermittent SRS warning light go off. So far it's been the seat belt buckle sensor going bad. I had my local Acura dealer take a look, said it was a faulty buckle sensor. Since the seatbelt system is covered under warranty for the operating life of the vehicle, Acura picked up the bill (at least for the 2004 model year, but I'm not sure about other years).

i think i jinxed myself posting in this thread, just had to pay almost 2K to have my AC system fixed. almost sold the car because i couldnt stomach dumping this much money into it. however i bit the bullett and hoping i can get another 30-40K miles out of it.

although i might put it in want ads just to see if i can sell it for reasonable price. they were only offering me 3500 for trade in.

Wow, bad luck I guess. But it would seem that you had no choice as you really couldn't sell the car without the HVAC system working (it's not like it's a 92 Civic or something). Maybe drive it for awhile and then try to sell it while everything is still working.

Simba, that is likely my plan, hopefully i can get more like 7K + for it via private sale. Car has new clutch, new ac system, and new suspension.

I think i'll get a new TL even though what i really want is a new Audi S4.

You might get that, but the 140K miles is a stumbling block. I'm at 170K on my 05, and even though the car is perfect, I know the mileage is killing me (it's for sale).

My '04 just broke 100k last week. I'm the 2nd owner, got it used from a returned lease at 96k. Right now the only issue I have with it is with the seat moving when I brake. I can get it to a point where it sits tight for a little while if I move around a little. Hoping I don't have to get a whole new seat to fix that...

How much would that cost? Any ideas?

Thanks, one more question came to mind. How urgent is a fix like that, will the seat get worse? Or is the replacement mainly for the comfort of a stable seat?

Agreed. I'm on my second seat (this one moves too). I had the first one replaced under warranty, but the dealer couldn't recreate it the second time, so I've been living with it for years (like 3 or 4). It hasn't gotten any worse, and actually even seems to go away for awhile at times. I wonder if the movement isn't the same for all seats.

I bought my 04 last year with 105K. I am the 3rd owner and the car runs excellent! Mine came with a lot of goodies! Comptech catback exhaust, Comptech header, Injen CAI, Comptech rear swaybar, Buddyclub coilovers, Ingall rear camber kit, and a A-Spec front lip. I added the 18" Work-vs-xx wheels. Right now I'm in the process of changing out the brakes with painted calipers. Replaced all the fluids and plugs. Detailed the engine bay and added some bling. I have new Alpine Type S speakers, Alpine Type S 10" subwoofer and 2 JBL amplifiers(4-channel, Sub) to install next.
I have the same issue with my drivers seat. It can be anoying! The only other issue I've had is the passenger door lock actuator needs to be replaced. hopefully the previous owner fixed the A/C problem that's common on the 04's!

You might want to re-think that Comptech rear sway bar. There have been a number of reports here (none recently though) of broken rear sway bar bushing mounts. Not the bushings or the part that holds them, but the actual mount that's welded to the unibody.

Thanks for the heads up! I will check the mounts! I had a new progress rear sway bar to install but it wouldn't fit with the comptech catback exhaust. The comptech rear sway bar fits with no problem.

Yeah, I remember a few posts where it was mentioned that the Comptech bar was used for that reason. It may have something to do with the bushing material. I have a Progress rear bar on my 05, and the bushings are rubber. I remember it being the plastic bushings that caused the problem with the Comptech bar (I think). I haven't read anything about this issue lately. Maybe someone who actually has experience with the problem could chime in.

I've had the Comptech RSB for just about 70k miles with no problems.

Not sure what the actual problem is....I'm in california, so no salt on the roads, and I'm also lowered with the A-spec suspension.

I vaguely remember the problem being stock suspensions paired with CT RSB? The RSB having to deal with most of the load and movement may have lead to the failures? Not sure, but it sounded plausible.
