Mileage Remaining
Hey guys... My buddy just got an 04' used Volvo S60 and was showing me some of the gadgets it had. When we came to a light he told me that he only had 85 miles remaining on the gas tank. I asked him how he knew that and she told me (much like jeeps, audis, mercedes, etc) that he had on his car a trip computer or some type of mechanism that knew how many miles he had remaining on the gas tank before the gas was all emptied up.
He was surprised that my acura didnt have a similar display- Do the TSX's have this type of display? All I could find was temperature, two trip odometers and a real odometer but no display of milage remaining per gas tank.
btw- i have an 05' TSX w/o Nav. Lemme know if you guys know anything about this?
thanks

Make a hole, coming thru!
The 2006 and newer has a multi-information display ("MID") with instant mpg, and (for each of both trip odometers) avg mpg, avg speed, elapsed time, range. Did I forget anything, guys? There's an option to have the Trip A odometer reset when you fill up. Handy for road trips, use Trip B for the whole shebang, and trip A monitors each tankful.
Volvos have prevalent electrical problems, such that it discouraged me from getting a V70 turbo a few yrs back. Volvo can kiss my rear bumper.

As David said, the 06+ TSX's have the MID which gives us information, including what you're asking about (range = estimated miles left). He forgot to mention that the MID gives us estimated oil life and the air temperature outside.

Yep, yep. I ignore that oil life nonsense (I track these things anyway; I think that's for girly girls anyway, "dipstick? what dipstick?"). I use the outside air temp a lot, as it helps me know if I need to set my climate control down a bit.
Here's the owner's manual link (2006 edition) for more info. Sorry I didn't bother to look it up earlier:

Yeah, I hate the oil life....when it thinks it's too low, it starts nagging every time I start the car, and that orange light is lit while driving. I know I can reset it, but then it won't be able to annoy me enough to get around to doing an oil change.

Guys, the oil life indicator has nothing with the amount of oil left in the pan. It has to do with the computer's estimation of how dirty/deteriorated the oil is, based on number of revs, starts, etc. that the car has had since the last oil change.
The dipstick will show you how much is left, how dark the oil is (which doesn't necessarily mean dirty), but the MID will let you know when the oil is due for a change.

Edit: oh, I see where you thought that David thought that it's an oil level measurement (ie: mentioning dipstick). Personally, I've been the advocate of disregarding the oil life indicator =P

Oh, I wasn't suggesting the oil life was measuring quantity. I'm dumb, but not that dumb. I was indicating that the "Oil Life 50%" was an idiot indicator for people who can't remember when they're oil change is due, and never bother to check the level. The type of people for whom those gross little inside-windshield stickie notes were developed for. But for someone how actually pays attention to when the next servicing is (mileage and/or date), it's pretty unnecessary IMHO.
But then a light comes on.... You're right, Chrisman, there it is on Page 74 and page 266 of my manual. Oil life is based on "engine operating conditions and accumulated revolutions." You say you want a revolu-shu-u-un, well-l you know...

The last three tanks I've run to 0 miles left on "miles remaining", and in every case it took 14 - 14.25 gallons to fill up, meaning ~3 gallons were left (or about 80-90 miles remaining). So I'm not sure what it's basing the calculation on.
