Might Take the Plunge, Last Minute Q's
I might actually sack up and do it. Got a couple last minute questions.
1) Are we confirmed the only difference on the 06 vs 07 (w/Nav) is the TPMS and the upgraded Nav DVD? Anything else I should try to have the dealer throw in besides the upgraded disc?
2) I'm curious if you agree with my reasoning for going with the 06. Mainly they have the exact color and model I want, it has a $1000 dealer marketing cash not available on the 07. Combine that with the 07 price increase, I can get the 06 for about $1200 less than an 07. Would you do it, or does having an outgoing model year negate this savings?
3) How can I check the DVD version? I'd like to try to get them to give me the new DVD, but I don't know how to check this. Any help is appreciated?
4) Lastly, is there anything I should be aware to check before delivery? Anything in the earlier build dates that have TSB's, common problems, etc (I suspect my model has been sitting for awhile).
I'm scared a hell to spend so much money on something! But maybe I'll actually do it. Hope I don't regret it

1. there are much bigger differences than just the tpms and the upgraded nav. plus the disc can't just be upgraded since the unit in the 07 has the xm nav traffic software. unless i'm mistaken.
2. i think you should be getting much more off than just $1200. i've heard people getting 06 models for around 31k with nav.

1) dont know the 06 -> 07 changes thought it was nothing.
2)I agree get the 06
3)the 06 has the new dvd processor and unit. Just the map updates are on new dvds yearly I think.
4)I think all the TSB/bugs were worked out the first 3 years.
Do it!

There should be a larger discount that $1,200. I just bought an 06 TSX and not only did I get a good price on the TSX, but they were willing to give me a very, very good price on the trade-in of my nearly 10-year old Honda, which they had little use for. Another dealer offered me half what my dealer ultimately did for it, so I can only surmise they were willing to deal to get the 06 TSXs off their lot. Pick a dealer with a lot of inventory and odds are, at this point, they'll do pretty much anything (reasonable) to get you to take the car.
Good luck!

Jerome, I'm the same age as you and it, too, was hard for me to spend that much money but I can say that I'm a very happy customer 10 months later.
From what I know, you are correct about the differences. I have an '06 and have driven an '07 and I saw only those differences mentioned.
I would attempt to shoot for around $2000 off or more for the 2006. I got more than that and I purchased after the 2006's had just arrived on the lots.
I don't have navigation so I can't answer your third question. However, when you take delivery, look the car over really good for any cosmetic flaws or non-functioning parts. Don't be afraid to ask all the questions you need to during the salesman walk-thru.

Someone stole "My Garage"
I'd also get them to throw in the all-season mats + trunk tray for free as part of the deal. They're awesome! Only worth about $175 or whatever, combined, but really something they should all come with anyhow. Getting them thrown in at the last minute (once all other details are worked out) can easily be done IMO.

Dec 19, 2006, i paid 28,300 for a brand new 2006 tsx with navi, so don't pay more than that. It should easily be 27,500 or less with the 2007s out.

I agree with the posters here. The 07 is not worth $1K more than the 06, particularly if you're going to keep it for more than 3-4 years. The only difference is that once you drive an 06 off the lot it immediately becomes a 1 year old used car.

Without any haggling he offered the car for $27,400 including destination charges. I was out the door with TTL for $29,900. When I rejected the offer for a free pinstripe job, he gave me a 5 year tire and rim warranty from R.O.A.D. I estimate that this is a $300 value.
3) It's likely that an 06 will come with last year's disc (mine did). It is version 4.31c. The current version is 4.55. Just eject the disc and the version number is printed on it. I knew going in that for some reason, dealerships aren't too friendly about upgrading the disk for free. I made this a condition of sale, and it was written on the sales form. Even so, I had a major hassle with the dealership. After waiting over 2 weeks, I began to escalate it to the sales and service managers. They grudgingly agreed to honor the contracted agreement, and initially said it would be two more weeks, but called me back the same day saying the disk was being sent via overnight delivery, and I got it the next day.
Bottom line on this, insist that the new disk be written on the sales slip as a condition for sale, and follow up aggressively. For whatever reason, they don't want you to get it (I had the exact same problem with my original 04 TSX - I didn't win that one).
Good luck.

I asked about the disk when I bought my 06 and I was told they get asked that a lot around this time of the year and cannot do it. But they referred me to the Acura customer service line where I can request it. My dealer said everyone he has referred to that line hasn't had any problems.
If I do, the dealer will certainly hear about it.

I was in a bind when my 04 TSX was totaled in October and I needed to get a new car quickly. I travel for work about 80% of the time, and I didn't have time to car shop. I was glad that I could get a new TSX right away (as opposed to a 3-month wait back in 2003).
I like the car, but I'm beginning to believe that car salesmen have a deserved reputation.
Good luck getting the disc upgraded.

I am quite sure that my starting point for price on the 06 is $26,300 + TTL. I was made an offer of $27,277 back in late august. I figure I can slap the $1000 marketing cash on top of that. If it was valid in August I should be able to do that now at the end of the year. This particular dealer has a good number of 06's still on the lot.
I think I'd offer $26,000 + TTL and see where it goes (should I pull the trigger). Unless I'm missing some other incentive somewhere. The way I figured it with holdback, the dealer gets about $250 @ $26,277. Unless you think they'd be willing to sell for a bigger loss, though I think I'd be super happy if they took my offer or I had to pay $26,277 instead of $26,000 even. Either way that is a wonderful price.
Thanks for the help.

I say get the '06, as the '07 is the last year of the current body style, where the '06 is when the redesign took place. '07 is kind of like a lame duck which "might" make the '06 slightly more valuable?
The only downside I can see, is if your total the '06, the book value will be less than the '07.

Go for it! I bought the 2006 TSX MT w/ Navi back in May and paid right around $28k. Also got them to throw in tint and give me the spolier for cost. NO regrets!! Love my car more than life itself...

Wow. Any trade in?
That surprises me as even if you take invoice and subtract the holdback, $26,000 even is actually negative money (though they may have other hidden payments they receive).
Is that quote for a NAVI equipped TSX?

Well that's the thing. Selling at $27,277 that is quite a bit below invoice for a NAVI. I figured that with holdback being 3% of base MSRP, they make $250 at that price (unless there are other payments BESIDES the holdback). I subtract the additional $1000 marketing cash and end up at $26,277, where they should still be making $250 from the holdback.
That's why if I knocked another $1000 off that, I'd be surprised how they'd make anything at ~$25,100. But if they'd do it, I'd better get the car. Can't pass that up!

My TPMS system is hanging from a nail in my garage. Don't want one on the car -- just one more doohickey to potentially go on the fritz or beep at me if it doesn't like how I have my tire pressures set. Kind of like doors that lock themselves. Get the '06, it's cheaper and has more horsepower and Brembo brakes. Okay, those last two I made up...
