MID Settings / Default on Ignition

Does anyone know how to get the default upper display of the MID to be on from ignition? I have what I want set in the custom settings, but the upper display is always blank when I start the car. Hitting the "I" button isn't terrible, but seems like there should be a way to set it so it's on from ignition.

Also, before anyone suggests "go search the forum" I just did that. Ironically, I only found one thread from June 06 where someone asked this same question, and the only reply was a Mod telling them to do a search (without providing an answer). Maybe the answer is old enough to not be in the searchable archives. I have an 06 AT w/o Nav. Thanks -

I don't believe you can... Though you can not buckle your seat belt right away or open the door to activate the upper part of the screen. I find it eaiser just to press the I button rather than do either of those two options.

That would explain why sometimes it did - guess it was the times I pulled out of the driveway without buckling first. Seems strange they didn't set up the car to do it - they sure thought about everthing else. Thanks -

I used to want it on all the time...but now I almost always drive with it off. I only turn it on when I want to find out how long i've been driving (if on a road trip)

Yeah, I find myself leaving it off most of the time.

Otherwise, I get more concerned about my gas mileage instead of just enjoying my car.

But, it still is a usefull feature to have.

I switched mine to range, although playing the instant gas milage game was fun.

there was a thread just like this, and I told them, "If you don't put your seatbelt on or if you leave door open, it'll come on automatically" and OP got pissed. so I will not say that this time. But MID kinda gets annoying after a while. Especially when it's time to get your engine oil changed.

oh, and the answer to your question is "no, there is no way you can get it to come up automatically at the startup"

No way to get it to come up default. But in a way it's nice because the dash looks cleaner without it. It's very easy to check it when you need to.

BTW, great Avatar. "There's such a fine line between clever and stupid"

Why thank you! I figured only those with class and sophistication would recognize it. One of my all-time favorite movies.

As for the meter, it may make more sense if you all knew I was a recovering hybrid driver (Honda Civic Hybrid). The instant MPG display is your best friend if you're driving for efficiency - a habit I ingrained in myself over the last 5 years. In fact, the mileage was one of the very attractive features of the TSX. So part of how I enjoy the car is milking it for all the mileage it's worth. So far in two tanks I've recorded 31 MPG (just over 800 miles of driving) - about 30% of that is city (and on an auto tranny). It's not 45, but for everything this car is (that my Civic was not), there's no regrets.

Guess I'll have to get used to pushing the stupid button....
