Maxima vs tsx?
Maxima vs tsx?
i'm just curious as to why everyone compares accord v6 to the tsx, but nobody compares the nissan maxima to the tsx?
before i got my tsx, i wasn't even considering the accord v6, i was trying to decide between tsx w/ navi and maxima. after dealing for a bit, the prices i got were near identical. the maxima has 25 more hp than the accord v6, looks nicer, decent interior, so wouldn't this be more of a fair comparison?

I guess one could compare the two on price alone - but they are quite different cars. I guess most folks considering the TSX don't like the look of the Maxima (inside or out) and a test drive comparison would sway many folks in the TSX's direction.
yeah, i guess, but most people considering tsx don't like the looks of the accord either, sedan OR coupe. but the test drive of the maxima was actually pretty nice, definitely more comparable to the tsx than accord, which i found to be a bit sluggish. but i'm no car expert, so please don't attack me.
The Maxima is really quite a boat to drive these days. I test drove one and was not at all impressed by the handling. As for the design...it's polarizing.
I think the Maxima is a much larger car than the TSX anyway and I didn't even consider it because I didn't want a car that big.

boat is the right word. I cross shopped and test drove one, tons of torque and power, but no where near as great a package as the TSX. The engine doesn't make the car.

Before I bought my TSX I was pretty sure that I was going to get the Maxima. I drove both and liked the Maxima a lot. The price was about the same. Believe it or not, the navigation sold me on the TSX. Nissan's navigation is not nearly as cool.
The cars I considered:
-Accord EX V6 w/leather and NAV - Financing was about the same price as the TSX but the Accord lease was a great deal. I finally decided that the look of the TSX was better and I see way too many Accords on the road. Also, I like the Auto Stick. I financed the TSX.
-Dodge Magnum / Chrysler 300 - Nice cars but if you don't get the V8 Hemi versions, you can't get other cool stuff like the Nav. Then you are left with a Chrysler with little resale value. Add the Hemi to these cars and you are around the $35K mark. At that price I would get a TL instead.
-Nissan Maxima - See above

so i take it that most people would rather get an accord v6 over a nissan maxima? i agree that nothing beats tsx's package, and ultimately it was the navigation on the tsx that sold me over too over maxima.
i just found it weird that maxima wasn't being compared.
this is my opinion
price: maxima, accord v6, tsx all about the same
power: maxima over accord over tsx
handling: tsx over accord over maxima
fun of driving (i don't know what else to call this): maxima over tsx over accord

Maxima fun of driving for me was . Torque steer, floating suspension, tons of weight. Wasn't nimble at all like the TSX, very very different
Nissan is really pushing their product. They came down more then Acura, plus they currently have 2 percent financing. I got my TSX for about $29K (NAV plus the I-VES, which is a $2500 unit installed). Payments come to $425 a month (with trade and $$$ down). A fully loaded Maxima (everything but the DVD player) came in about the same $425, but with $1000 less money down.
I think the TSX is also more fun to drive (even though I have 5 AT, I use the Sequential SportShift all the time and I think it makes a big difference on performance). But if horsepower = fun to drive, then yes it's the Maxima.

A friend of mine picked up an 04 Maxima last year. He's had nothing but problems. I can find out the details, but I think there was something wrong with the engine mount. He's had it in the shop close to 10 times, and it's still not entirely fix. Now there's a very distinct "shake" to the car when at idle.
He's not pleased, but granted, this may be a fluke case.
Nissan has always made me nervous, but I've heard their quality is much better in recent years.

If you are comparing the TSX to the Maxima you should look at the Altima. Same chassis but it looks smaller and sportier. Plus, you can get the 3.5 liter V6 SE/SL, it's the same engine in the Maxima, G35 and 350Z. The interior feels kind of cheap and handling isn't great though.
I was looking at Altima, Maxima, Accord, TSX
TSX was 10 times nicer than the Altima
4 times nicer than the maxima
nissans interior just KILLS their cars....its so damn UGLY
2 times nicer than the Accord....body of the honda just was to nasty to drive, plus their are 6000000 of the hondas on the road....

I didn't drive the Maxima but I did drive the G35 and I thought the TSX felt much more sporty, like it weighs 1/2 as much. I would think that G35 > Maxima so I didn't even bother with the Nissan. The interior of either car seemed cheap to me as well.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned quality. My neighbor's G35 has been in the shop for a total of a month on several visits. Most recently he's having the transmission replaced but he's also had major brake issues, uneven tire wear, and electrical problems.
I'd say that nissan is one step above Chrysler and many steps behind Toyota and Honda for quality.
