Manual vs. Auto
Has anyone out there test drove BOTH the 6 Speed and the Auto and bought the Auto tranny? I've never driven the 6 Speed TSX. I bought the Auto and 18000 miles later, I wonder if I made a mistake back then...

I test drove the Auto and stick, but after driving the stick, I immediately knew I wanted a stick.
Everyone will have their own opinions though obviously, but it depends on what your interest is...personally I think all passenger type cars should be manual.

I too have my heart set on a 6 sp. but today I stopped by Acura and they had a PWP auto on the lot. Damn...was that tempting or what!
although I still have to sell my RSX-S.
On the same note......what was the auto tranny recall about and is it a quick fix?

Me too.
IMO, if you are the only one driving the car then you should get the 6spd. Most 4 cylinders perform better with a manual tranny and the TSX is no exception. And the fact that its probly THE BEST MT found in a sedan should make the decesion even easier.
If not, join the club

I've driven both. We've purchased AT, because this is my wife's car and she preferred the convenience of AT for stop & go traffic she faces every day. I am from Europe, so to me MT is the natural one in ANY car. You do not need hundreds of HP if you have MT and USE it!. Having said that, I admit that AT in TSX is very impressive and IMO people who do not have MT "encoded in their genes" should be happy with it.
I test drove both and bought the 6MT. Because of some traffic I encounter daily, Iactually had some doubt about getting the 6MT and re-tested the auto w/SS a second time. In the end, I chose the 6MT because it is so damn fun to drive.
I test drove both and wanted a 6-speed NAVI. I really did not drive the 6 speed hard enough to tell a big difference and wound up buying an auto navi. If I would have known that the 6 speed was geared more agressively and was faster I would have bought the 6 speed no matter what.
I kick myself in the butt everyday because there are so many times when I would love to depress the clutch on a hard 1st gear run instead of up-shifting or simply letting off the gas and disrupt the chasis. Oh well. Live and you learn.

Driving Stick is something inside you that you just love. For example, the new CVT auto transmissions claim to shifter faster than a manual tranny, but I would never buy one because I don't want some computer driving my car for me. Driving stick is something I love because of the control I have over the car. It just so happens that performance gains are associated with that control. If the situation were reversed and a manual tranny decreased performance I would still get an stick.

Although one thing interesting about older Honda auto trannies is that the tranny is actually not a planetary gear set, rather its construction is based on the principle of a manual tranny, you can almost tell too if you drive say a 1992 Accord like my sister does, it almost feels like a manual in a sense in the way it shifts.
[QUOTE=goddsmack]lol...there really isn't any other way to control a constant variable tranny in any other form. Instead of planetary gear sets, it's a belt with a constant adjusting pulley that in the easiest terms to understand squeezes and releases to vary the pulley size. Emissions also plays a roll and in fact will not keep a car for very long in it's optimial torque band because of that.

Not a website, but classroom knowledge, I'm in an auto tranny right now in class. I'll see if i can find a website. I think...and I'm not sure of this, it's may be based on the synhcromesh trannies. Let me get back to you on that.
Did you also know that the Honda trannies sort of cut off the ignition when shifting gears? It's very precisie in that manner in that one clutch releases while another engages in the process.
