Looking to do a simple speaker upgrade on 2 rear speakers

I've heard to install new speakers in the back is really easy. I have a 2006 TSX. I'd like to get alittle better midrange especially and maybe some additional bass but not too much. I listen to alot of rock.

Can you recommend a good replacement speaker that isn't too costly, under $200 for pair.

Thanks,
Chris

Personally, I just went through this and found I had a significantly upgraded sound for Rock, Top-40, and talk radio, but replacing the front components with Alpine Type-S components. I didn't used the included crossover - I simply connected the new speakers in place of the old ones and am therefore using the x-over in the factory amp. I also replaced the rear door speakers but this upgrade was much less impactful. The rear 6x9's are stock and seem perfectly fine. They are bass-only anyhow. Midrange, you want improved up-front... that's where your soundstage is.

The rear 6x9's are boomy and loud in the upper bass. With my replacement speakers, the upper-bass peak is gone, and you can hear/feel more low bass. Obviously, results will differ depending upon what speaker you get, how efficient it is, etc.

When you said rear speakers, did you mean the rear door speakers or 6x9 on the rear deck?

If you plan to upgrade the rear door speakers, I'd say skip it and invest in upgrading front speakers. You won't tell much of a difference at all by upgrading rear door speakers.

Just get 2 12's in the trunk. Definitely hear and feel the difference. Like a massage on your back.

assuming the original poster was talking about the 6x9s in back and not the rear door speakers....what are some good 6x9 that give better bass than the stock ones?

My understanding is that the rear deck 6x9 speakers are bass only - not needing a full range speaker.
Some folks suggested 6x9 woofers from Parts Express.

I don't know the success of this substitution. There is a thread with some discussion.

The TSX's 6x9's are sub/mid-bass signals ONLY. This is all they are and this is why when some of you that replaced the 6x9's you saw less bass. The best thing you can do is upgrade the front components and put 2-way drivers in the rear doors. Leave the 6x9's alone. Just my .02the upgraded 6.75" woofers in the front doors by themselves will give you a lot of what you seek adding the rear doors will only add to that.

Those will work fine. Added highs with added mid-bass to the front sound stage to add to the rear 6x9 subs. Just aim the tweets up and angled toward the front passengers.
