Lime Dust

I work in a building that my family owns in a small town which is located close to the soil service. This company uses the main street to enter and exit their facility. All of their trucks and machinery is covered with lime and as they travel down the main drag lime dust follows. This stuff covers everything, homes, cars, etc. What is this doing to my vehicle and others who work in my building and those who live on this street. Is this something that we should take a stand against? I mean right before I typed this post a truck passed by with one of the largest clouds of lime dust I have seen to date. I can't believe the city will not permit us to park out in front of the building but they will allow this? Maybe I am off base. What do you all think?

actually that lime stuff sticks to your car.. i work at a car wash and this company had over sprayed the lime onto peoples cars while they were putting it down on the construction site and caused a rough speckled surface all across the cars... so the company that did that had to pay us in order to get all of that stuff off.. im the cashier but i kno that the guys working out side had a hard time gettin it off.

I would buy a cheap car cover and put that on during the day time at work.

The stuff turns pretty caustic when it's wet. What is it being used for? If it's agricultural use it's not as bad since it's much less alkaline but if it's being used to make cement, it's much stronger. It's not good for your eyes, skin or lungs so your car's paint is probably the least of your concerns.

You might want to look into anything the EPA can do for you since the local government sounds pretty complacent.

Hmm, 3rd post and you're already advocating vandalism. Your future here looks bright.

How the fuck is that going to have any influence on his problem anyway? So now he'll be replacing tires constantly as well as getting his paint fucked up? Genius.

Ive had first hand experience with that this year.......

New townhomes were being built next door to me this year. The cement mixer was throwing all sorts of dust up in the air and it was settling on all the cars across the street. The illegal immigrant workers were using a barrel filled with water to hose off the cars and wipe them down. I didnt see this but my neighbors witnessed this happen.

After they did a half ass job of wiping my car down I came out to find dried cement(which has lime in it) all over the upper surfaces of my car. It has made gray clouds under my clearcoat and permantly damaged the paint. I am currently working through their insurance, if nothing comes out of it, then off to small claims court.

Cliff notes.....keep your car away from lime, cement dust, and sort of construction dust.
