LED Switch Lights?
LED Switch Lights?
The light that illuminates the VSA switch has burned out, and that got me to thinking that I'd rather just run LED bulbs for all of my switches and cubby light. Has anyone done this, or know what options are available?
Also, is the blue light that is just below the radio an LED or incandescent bulb? I know the cubby light is incandescent with a green rubber cap on it, but I'm not sure about the blue light.

Update:
Apparently my '06 TSX never had a light in the VSA button. I took the button out and found that it didn't have a bulb, so some must have a light and others must not.
I will be purchasing several different kinds of NEOx bulbs from superbrightleds and post the results here. It's a shame the car didn't come with LED bulbs from the factory considering the technology has been commonplace for the past 3 decades.
I'm also considering building my own Li-Ion battery to replace the lead-acid one. The goal would be to install an alternator kill switch to see how much I can improve my mpg by charging the battery at home and not running the alternator. I've read it will increase mileage by approximately 5%. The Li-ion battery would also be lighter weight which should improve the weight distribution.
Before adding an alternator kill switch though, I want to find some used light weight wheels. Kosei K4R please

Update:
I purchased 2 different NEO-3 LEDs from Superbrightlights; a low lumen bulb and a high lumen bulb. I measured the power draw of each and installed them into the moon roof switch and compared the results.
The high lumen bulb has a 120 degree beam pattern, which I found left a bright spot in the middle of the switch, but barely illuminated the top and bottom portion. It just didn't look right. The bulb measured 0.17 watts at 13mA and 13.4V.
The low lumen bulb is rated at an even lower beam angle of 100 degrees. However, the bulb didn't fit in the socket because it was too tall. I sanded the bulb down to within 1mm of the reflector so that it would fit in the switch housing. By sanding the top, it dispersed the light more evenly and I no longer had a bright spot in the middle of the switch, but instead had a fairly even distribution. The bulb measured 0.23 watts at 17mA and 13.4V
The stock incandescent bulb has a green cap on it that produces the greenish-white light. I measured the bulb at 0.55 watts at 41mA and 13.4V. Running the LED only saves 1/4 watt, but the light output is a pleasant full white color. Another benefit is that it should last the lifetime of the car.
Although the low-lumen bulb actually consumes a little more power, I recommend it over the high-lumen bulb because it can be sanded down for a more even light distribution. Not only that, but it's a dollar cheaper and puts out just the right amount of light. I'll be buying 2 more low-lumen white LEDs to put in the heater switches, and 4 low-lumen orange LEDs to replace the heater lights that come on when you switch them on.
If the window switches use the same bulbs, I'd like to replace those as well. Anybody know what bulbs they use?
Low lumen bulb - $1.29ea

High lumen bulb - $2.29ea

FYI- There are 3 sizes available, and the correct size is the 3mm T-1 (smallest)
