LED bulbs review/problems

I got some LED bulbs from superbrightleds.com.

First it took almost 3 weeks to get them (I'm in Orlando FL). Which pissed me off because I'm not a patient guy.

Then the bulbs itself...I bought the WLED-WHP (168/192) bulb for the license plate light. I must say I really like how this bulb turn out. This bulb acutally look better on the 3rd Gen TL since they have the light bulb placed in the middle, we acutally have two bulbs which makes it a little dark in the center of the license plate. Still I recommend this bulb since it make us look like the new IS license plate light.

I also bought some Festoon bulbs (3022) for the interior. I got the 9 LED and the 4 LED in white color output. First I'm really disappointed with the 9 LED because it looks slightly dimmer then the 4 LED. The color doesn't match between the 9LED and 4LED either because the 4LED looks to be around 6000k and the 9LED looks to be around 4300k.

That doesn't mean I recommend the 4 LED Festoon bulbs either. These bulbs do not totally go off when they are in the map light. They still glow as if they have some prower still, even in the off position. Does anyone else have this problem? I don't have that problem if I install the 9 LED festoon.

i had the exaxt same problem with the 4 LED. it still slightly glows sometimes..

i changed toa 9 LED ones, but instead of <===> shape, it looks like <=[:::= > ( center is not a rectangle, it is a square box full of 9 LEDS)

it is very bright, and i am very satisfied.

i was sick of 9 LEDs for my license plate, so i bought a 1 Watt super white bulb from Tec_toyz.

i really recommand it. it is so bright, very nice super white. it is small, and fits perfectly.

for interior LEDs, i recommand eautoworks.com

for license plate, i recommand tec_toys which u can find easily in ebay.

i bought the same bulbs as you and had that same problem with the leds not totally going off in the map light area only. i know its going to probably be such a minimal power draw, but i just hate the fact that they still light up. so needless to say, i took them out and am using the stocks now.

Hi acura_ak,

Did you turn on the "Door" or "Off" switch? If the "Off" is selected the light won't go off. Try to switch to "Door".

Thanks,
Jacky ^_^

Your 9-LED bulbs didn't have the problem with staying on dimly??? I just installed some 9 LED 3022 festoon bulbs from superbrightleds.com and they stay on dimly if i have the map light switch in the "Off" position (which is where i like it). Even after I close the doors and lock the car, the lights stay on dimly. I'm going to try taking the bulbs out and re-seating them tomorrow to see if that helps.

This may be a very stupid question, but will the lights staying on dim like that drain my battery at all? I never really thought about it, but somebody brought it up to me today so now I'm a bit concerned (i worry about the little stuff a lot).

Hi Comp-Sci,

Why don't you turn to "ON" and let them turn on when you open the doors and turn off when all doors closed?

Thanks,

Well like I said, I prefer it in the OFF position so it's not too bright when I get in. I leave the dome light in the back seat in the "DOOR" position, so that gives just enough lighting into the front seat when I'm getting in/out.

Unfortunately, the rear dome light is also having this problem when I leave it in the DOOR position! (so it comes on when the doors are open). The 9 LED I put in there just barely stays on unless I have it in the OFF position.

So basically, what's happening in the front seats, I want to happen in the back, and vice versa.

EDIT: So I think I'm stuck with all dome/map lights staying on dimly even after the car is locked. Any idea on whether or not this is a danger to my battery?

The drain from LED's are very slight. I woundn't worry about it. But you do need to have it in the "on" position for them not to be dim. For them to be dim in the "off" position is normal.
