Keychain Remote

Hey guys,

I've had my TSX for exactly one week now, and absolutely love it. The build quality is great, and the nav system is just plain fun to use (and useful, too). However, my keychain remote is already showing A LOT of wear and tear. I haven't dropped it or done much else than place it on my desk and in my pocket. Nonetheless, there are many scratches and chips in it already.

In comparison, I used the keychain remote that came with my VW Jetta for nearly three years, and the it still looked new.

Am I just having some bad luck, or have you all noticed similar damage with your keychain remotes?

Mine is 1 year old - looks awful, but still works >100 ft away sometimes My 2 yr old VW remote looks like new, but has a range of about 14 inches

Congrats on the new car

Haha... yes, that is true. The range of the VW remote is crap compared to the TSX. Oh well... guests don't see the remote, so I can just deal with it. :P

I have a similar experience with my Pathfinder Remote...it really only works well (despite a new battery) INSIDE the truck (well, okay, ALMOST inside the truck). My TSX remote has been traveling with me (by air and rental car) for a month, and I guess it looks pretty okay. My P-finder remote looks just like it used to as well though, so when I finally get home (Sat eve! ) I'll test the functionality.

same problem here. the remote should only have the ignition key, anything else will scratch the remote.

My mom has had her TSX for about a month, and only keeps the ignition key on the keyring. Remote still looks new. It's dissapointing that it's not a little more resiliant, though.

When I picked up the car, I was really hoping for a key like the Accord (The remote control is built into the key itself). It looks better and is less bulky on the keychain. Instead we get an extra cheapo plastic piece of crap. WTF!!??

Same here, new car, a week old, remote does not look that new anymore...But then again, its just the remote...Like others noted, it does work great! I did really wonder why Acura still has the (so passe) key and fob, I would love the Accord/BMW style all-in-one key or the flip out Audi/VW key...
On another note about the key, does the fob hit people in the knee when they drive, and does it bother them as much as it does me!? It's only a minor annoyance, but it makes me want to do long drives in pants only (kinda hard in the summer!) ~ Steven

It doesn't hit my knee, but it scrapes the steering column every so often, and drives me nuts on quiet drives... lol.

Mine started looking worn after just a few days, too. I was quite surprised what with everything else being of such high quality that this one thing would be so cheap. Oh well, I guess if that's the worst complaint I ever have about my TSX I'll be very satisfied.

Yes, my remote is looking waaaaaaay too beat up for the mileage. It seems to pick up stray scratches and dings anywhere and everywhere (coins, other keys, etc.)

H and A has a Leather Remote Cover that might take care of the problem.
I haven't tried it, but it should work.

See:

The plastic's not cheap. It's the faux metallic paint. That's what scratches.
If they didn't try to make it look fancy it would be more rugged.

My wife's Pilot remote is plain black plastic and it's still perfect after a year.

Anybody know if a Honda remote can be programmed for our car?
