Just for fun: Has anyone named their navi?

Gotta ask this question -- because I'm not sure if my family and friends are just insane, or if it's pretty common.

Has anyone named the voice in their navigation system? And I guess a related question...do you prefer the male or female voice?

My dad has always named his navi voices. The first two were Judy, the latest one is Jennifer. When I asked him why, he just says "She sounds like a Judy."

My wife's aunt and uncle named theirs Lily, after Lily Tomlin and her Ernestine the Operator character. (Why they didn't name the navi Ernestine...I just don't know).

Since I've only had my car a week, I haven't named my navi yet. But I'm sure eventually a name will stick.

So please tell me I'm not insane...please tell me someone else does this too...

My friend has a prius, she calls hers "Susan". Once I get mine I'm totally naming it. I gotta hear its personality first tho.

Is it more of a Calvin or a Hobbes? A Bill or a Ted? This is up to you.

You can choose a male or female voice?

I would probably name mine "Tom Tom"

I don't have a name but I am frequently calling her bitch or saying "STFU bitch!" because the repetitive directions.

On another note, the 2006 male voice when you say "show entire route", the statement the guy makes sounds like it was an impromptu edited wav file inserted months after the recordings were made. The voice is rippled and faster than other voice statements and sounds like he was on helium. Anyone else notice it? Also seems like certain commands work better depending upon which voice type is selected?! dunno.

Named mine Ali after my hot blonde saleswoman. I told her I was going to, I think it creeped her out a little. Oh well. But everyone gets confused, thinking the car's name is Ali. Nope, just the voice.

My girlfriend named the female voice "Kim" which I prefer because I can hear it better without making the voice too loud. My girlfriend prefers to keep it on the male voice (which remains unnamed) but if she gets in my car and notices I've switched the voice back to Kim she'll make a remark like, "I see you've been talking to that slut again!"

I like the female voice. Something about being inside a "male" car bothers me.

I haven't named her yet, which is strange, because I name everything.

I don't have mine yet, but probably will name "it". On a semi-related note, where I work, the field guys have GPS units they carry, and most of them call theirs "Merlin", evidently after Merlin the friendly magician. Wasn't there a handheld computer games in the 80s called Merlin?

I don't have navi, but if I did, I think I'd name it "Computer". Like in Star Trek.

Wow, there's some timing -- my gf and I just named the female voice this weekend. We named her Eve.

I'm not sure why, but I think it has to do with that whole Tree of Knowledge dust-up.

Gibson - you are a diehard Seinfeld freak aren't you? Sorry, that's so off-topic, but just an observation!

I definitely miss the show, but you should be elected President of the Seinfeld fan club.

I'm a big fan, wouldn't call myself a diehard freak

Even though that's Michael Richards in my avator, it's not Kramer. That Stanley Spudowski, from the movie UHF. Really nothing to do with Seinfeld.

I still laugh my ass off at Seinfeld reruns. Last night it was the one where they were lost in the parking structure.

I'm really not trying to hijack this thread, but my favorite definitely has to be the one where Jerry dates the Ocean perfume model; specifically when Kramer finds out.

Bertha... Then I confused people by making statements like "Bertha told us to turn right" or "Bertha took us through town rather than the back way"

I'm thinking maybe I should name mine Fiona. That name sounds sophisticated, a little sexy, and most importantly...it sounds like she knows where the hell she's going!
