Just filled up my first tank of gas on my new 06! :)

But before I did, the needle was almost on E, and also the Low Fuel warning came on. What makes me wonder though is this... I pull over, fill it up, and it only fills up 13.5 gallons! Doesn't the tank hold 17.1 gallons? When I start the car the needle goes all the way to the full (F) indicator. Plus the Range Estimator for how many more miles it estimated I could go was about 20. So it seems to me that based on all this, the tank only holds 14 gallons and not the 17.1 I had read that it holds.

nope, the tank does hold 17.1, you assume that maybe a gal or two is running under the lines of the car...but the car does underesitmated for some reason. I had E...drove around all worried, got to station...13.5...

When it hits "E" you can still drive 50+ miles. I dont recommend it but I have done it.

my accords give me the low fuel warning about 3 or 4 gallons early. I think it's Honda's way to make sure people don't end up getting stranded on the side of the road. Most of the people I know who aren't into cars will quickly look for gas when the light comes on. I, for one, try to wait until the end since I know that there are many more miles left (that, and I'd rather minimize the amount of visits per year I have to make to a gas station).

Heh, our Odyssey gave us the light in downtown Los Angeles, and I made it home (25 miles away) in super rush hour traffic (it was the night where it was raining so hard, the whole sky was filled with lightning, and there was snow on the freeway as I passed Burbank on the I-5)....I think I didn't get to pass 40 mph that night. I spent most of the commute sitting still and watching the light.

i drive mine to the E...like ALL The way until the needle hits red..then drive another 30 miles..on it since i estimate 30miles = 1 gallon since TSX does around 30mpg...

when i filled up..it was about 15.6 gallons still =(

The S2000 is the same way. The digital fuel gauge will show the light with almost 2-3 gallons in the tank. The light comes on at 200 miles, and since I get about 20-22 mpg, I'll fill at 250ish.

Is that 50 miles of reserve on the highway, or a mix of city and highway?

I filled up for the second time, yesterday, and got 9.8 L/100 km on the previous tank, including a mixed bag of highway, rural 2-lane, and city, and lots of constantly changing the engine speed/running in 4th, 5th, or 6th accordingly.

i wish the light would be a little less conservative but i could understand why Honda would want to make it that way. Lets face it, if you're stranded on the side of the road, people don't know why. They make thing the engine failed, why doesn't look too great for a car company.

They're just trying to idiot-proof the car. Not a bad idea considering the number of idiots there are.

I am surprised they didnt try to 'idiot-proof' the batery.

Like if you forgot it on, after 10-20mins just shuts off...or does the TSX have that?

How do you forget to leave a battery on? The headlights do shut themselves off on their own.

I just reset one of the trips when the light comes on. After 50-60 miles, street or highway, I stop and refuel.

I have an '05 tsx . . .the fuel light constantly comes on with 4 gallons left and since I average around 26 mpg, I know I have plenty of time to get to gas station to fill up . . .The posts about idiot-proofing the car are spot on . . . .The first car I owned was an '83/'84 VW GTI . . .(back in '83) . . . that car didn't have a fuel reserve light . . . all the cars my family had while growing up had the "light" . . .so, the first two weeks I owned the GTI I drove and drove waiting for the light to come on . . . .you all can figure out the rest of the story (DOH) . . . thank god the f'er ran out of gas only a couple blocks from a gas station . . . .I can tell you that in the 23 years of driving since then I never ran out of gas again . . . . .
