Aint gonna happen!

Just got done sanding it to fit better and then replaced the original front bumper.
The kit made the cut! Still don't know how the rest will fit, but the front bumper was my main concern. We are now in to the second round. Time to call for paint and go get the rest of the prep material (Maybe even a bigger compressor).

Project body kit is on track as of now! All systems go for the front bumper.

For anyone interested this is where I bought it....

Thanks guys!

Kenstyle shipped was $618
Paint & materials were about $100
Bigger Compressor $199 Home Depot
Husky Gravity Feed Spray Gun & Gauge $80
Ouch! I don't wanna add that up again.

I guess thats not bad for full body kit with most of it installed. The real Kenstyle kit costs more than that and I get to keep the new compressor and spray gun
And I also have a full 05 TSX front end including the grill along with the OEM side skirts painted SSM in good condition I could sell to recoup some cash....hmmm......will keep'em for now I think.

I don't think I want to use the Kenstyle rear bumper skirt. Gonna wait for a full bumper. If anyone knows someone that might want to buy or trade this Kenstyle type rear bumper skirt, let me know. I might even consider a different skirt. I will post in Black Market in a few days once I decide for sure. Here's pics:

I have painted several cars and decided to spend the money on the tools instead of paying someone to do it for me. This way instead of bitching about some paint shop leaving orange peel I can just eliminate it all by doing it on my own. Plus I needed a reason to buy a bigger compressor. Now I can paint my truck canopy to match my truck as well.

Looks like I will be adding more paint today. The wet sanding broke through the paint in 1 spot. I am gonna play it safe and add another coat or 2 of paint before the clear.

A bunch of people are cruising up to Vancouver, BC on Sunday, I might as well. Don't know if you will be back from the land of kimchi by then though.

The kit is almost done! 2 layers of clear down and 1 to go! Then she gets bolted on! Will have pics up asap.

Gonna try the silver grill for now. Everyone else has their's painted black. I will decide whether to keep it silver or change it later, but for now it stays silver.

That's awesome that you have the necessary skills and equipment to do the painting yourself.

Here's a quick review of the actual body kit itself....

The kit itself was $468, shipping was $150, so first of all the entire kit cost less than half of the Kenstyle itself. This is the awesome part.

As far as quality goes, it is very sturdy. But the kit needed some alteration to fit properly. I had to add fiberglass on the tips by the wheel on both sides. It also needed plenty of touch up/prep work before painting. So if you pay to have someone paint the kit and install it, you may get charged extra for body work needed.
All in all for me I am happy. Will let you know more when I get it put on.

Got home last night a little late and didn't get a chance to work on it at all. It does need some wet sanding and another coat of clear before I mount it though. Clear coat tonight, mount it on Thursday!

since it sounds like you are pretty good with fiberglass since you made your own sub boxes and you did some fixing work on your body kit I think you should keep that rear but mold it on.

CCC-I thought about molding the rear lip to the rear bumper, not sure if I want to take that one on yet...let it sit around my shop for a few weeks and I am sure I will end up doing something with it.

itrhybrid- buy me the paint and base and I will hook you up! You won't need much. Just found a killer place to get paint mixed. drop me a pic of it so I can see the damage. Have you gotten any estimates for repair yet?

That sounds very annoying. If you buy the "REAL" kenstyle you dont have to do that prep work and drill all the mounting holes right?

Most likely! But for the $600+ savings I can spend about a week on prep work alone and still be ahead of the game. I bet you still have to drill your own holes though.

EVERY body kit you buy will need some type of work. As far as i'm concerned the little bit of work I put in to it is well worth the money I saved. Like I said before....I paid less for the body kit, new compressor, new paint gun, and paint than I would have spent on the authentic Kenstyle kit alone unpainted.

That, and you have the satisfaction a true enthusiast would have: the satisfaction of doing things yourself to personalize your car.

That is one of the intangeables that I find really satisfying about owning and modding a car, however large or small the mod. Anyone can slap a pre-fab piece on their car and call it "personalized". Not a lot of people can paint and modify a bodykit and make it look (likely!) better than what you'd get for twice the price.

Good job and I can't wait to see pics of it installed and such!

No estimates yet. I just bought a new road bike so the repairs will ahve to wait. How much is paint now-a-days anyway?

Sorry! Yes it's on. My computer had a battle with a lightning bolt and lost so I now have limited net access.

I still have a tiny bit of wet sanding left and then I have to buff it. Will try to get the pics uploaded this morning.

Hey Cjams, I wonder how did it going with new kit on your TSX? R u happy with it? I called JTRsport Inc. and they said that they have 2 left and sell it for $568 dollar with shipped. But There are 2 different between Original Kenstyle and Replica. Replica is very similiar to Kenstyle and less cheaper but no foglamp. Kubna Stello kit from TSXPARTS that is replica but 90% percent of fiberlgass and same quality as Kenstyle. I found original Kenstyle for $1,400.00. I am thinking about getting Replica but not sure yet. I like original Kenstyle but $$$$$.
