While true that the not-so-cheap accessories could be the real things, I thought some consensus had been made that most of the TSX seat is leather. That seems like the most important leather portion of the cabin.

Plus, since when is having leather vs vinyl or wood vs plood a sign of lack of quality. You can have excellent quality vinyl or plood just as much as you can have crappy quality leather and wood. Your point is moot.

 

I agree that the entire seating surface is leather, but many people here are confused thinking only the perforated stuff is leather. Of course that arguement should be in an entirely different thread.

 

I said name cars under $30k because that what you were about -- and I said name ones that come in at that price WITH all the features the TSX has. I'm still waiting for a valid answer.


When I went to www.audiusa.com and selected the A4 and added leather, it showed a price higher than $30k -- and that's without MANY of the features the TSX has standard!

 

Thats because the preforated part IS the only real leather. This has been discussed several times. The sides and seat backs are vinyl.

 

I've read all the discussions and depsite what you're implying, not everyone agrees with your statement.

I guess there's never been a definitive answer but IMO is very obvious that only the prefortaed parts are leather. Well that and the fact that Acura calls it a "Leather Trimmed" interior and not a "Leather interior".

And in that second link Dan Martin says he's 100% sure only the prefoarted parts are leather. Thats good enough for me

My neighbour, who happens to be a saddle maker, has looked at all three of my Acuras and ensures me that only the actual seating surface is leather and the remainder vinyl.

My son who repairs car interiors for the car rental companies has of course seen my cars and confirmed that only the actual seating surface and the part your back contacts is leather. I can't really tell the difference but the first time my son saw my car he could tell the minute the door was opened that most of the seat's surfaces weren't leather.

Because of this I use products made for leather (Lexol) on the leather and vinyl products (303) on the vinyl.

This has to be one of the most discussed subjects on all acura forums.

I don't think its immediately evident upon looking inside the car but a quick study makes it obvious IMO.

Of course STL knows better, he's sat in a TSX a few times while I sit it in everyday.

I can't believe we're not seeing any driving reports of the 06 seeing as how this is the release date in the US. Not at the dealers yet?

My dealer just called and said my 06, ordered two months ago, will be unloaded off the ship the 15th or 16th and that he'll pick it up at the docks himself and drive it to his store and I'll have it soon after.

That's exactly what I think too. That was the conclusion after MUCH debate on the S2ki.com . I compared the seats in the TSX's I've been in to the seats in my S2000, and I think they are made the same stuff.

 

Why jiggaman? Was the increase in hp noticeable?

And the only part of the seat that is leather is the perferated part. The bolsters, back, etc. are all vinyl.

 

you know for people that complain that the problem with the car that it doesn't come with real leather etc...you know for a sub 30k car...you can have someone for a thousand or two install real leather over/replacing it and have even better quality leather that comes with some cars these days...

 

The A4, until the current iteration, only offered "leather seating surfaces" even with the leather package on the 1.8T. And even that would push the 1.8 price over $30K... you want real leather? $1,500 or more please. Navigation? Not even available until the current one, but fork over your arm, thank you drive thru. How about a sunroof? Have to get the package, and that requires your leg. Have fun hobbling.

Using the A4's price and "value" or "quality" in an argument is the surest way to lose it.

I gotta say though, I hope that the leather/non-leather difference is as unoticeable in the Acura as it is in my Audi. I really don't think that I would have known had I not seen the window sticker.

Well the good news is that you can always replace the leather!! You can't add a moonroof, incorporate an integrated navi system, integrate bluetooth etc etc w/o paying a hefty fee.

 

^^ by replace i mean if it wears out bad enough in the future.

Well my leather has held up fine, but the leatherette bolster it what is beginning to crack.
I've heard this is a common problem and it's only been one year.

 

Actually I do, but I did pick silver as the color. It's pathetic they charge almost $500 extra for that! LOL You still haven't shown me a car with all the features of a TSX with full leather for less than $30k.

I take my dog for a walk or swim every day in my 98 CL so the rear seat is always covered in sand, dirt, wet etc and when I occasionaly take the car to a car wash and can actually see the leather/vinyl I'm always amazed that the seat is in perfect condition, not a mark on it. I don't really care if it's vinyl or leather to tell the truth. I don't think any/many new cars have the option of cloth, vinyl, or leather any more but when they did I always opted for cloth. It did get dirty though.

 

Funny, I held out for an 06 because I thought the 04 drove like a Buick!!

 

Why would the 06 drive less like a buick than the 04?
