IS300 vs. TSX

I'm the Firestarter
I used to have a 2000 Honda Accord MT, 4-cyl 150 hp, before I got my TSX. I KNOW my 5AT is faster. It doesn't just feel faster, it's physics. When I pass other cars it takes less time and it does it quicker.
In that Accord, a passenger timed me doing 9 seconds 0-60 and that wasn't a real "launch" or anything. I've also seen times quoted for that car in magazines at 9.1 seconds or so. There's no way in hell the 200 hp 5AT TSX is slower than my old car. It's gotta do at most 8.5 if not less, and it's definitely got more juice when passing.

Not an Ashtray
I had a 1996 Honda Accord 4AT before the current TSX. That vehicle had 137 Torque compared to the 166 in the TSX. It was also about 300 pounds light (which, in theory, would come close to doing away with the advantage in torque). Yet, I notice a big, big improvement in performance.

IS comparo
Hey all-
Great site. i'm new to the group, and i thought i'd comment on this discussion because i own both cars. . . sort of- my IS is the Sportcross model (e-shift auto only). i've only had the TSX a week, but it seems that the two cars have comparable performance in real world driving situations. That being said, the differences become more apparent when you get in the twisities on a back road. The TSX feels more agile in that it has lighter steering and a more responsive throttle. The Lexus, especially being a "wagon" of sorts, has a heavier feel, but leaves stop lights with more authority and has very good visibilty over the hood. All of this is subjective, and i mostly agree with those who aren't concerned with the bragging rights of precise measurements. When all is said and done i'm picking the TSX for the quality of the shifter (has a better one ever been made?!) and the level of dirver involvement. It reminds me of my 2000 Prelude, only a lot more grown up. We can put the x-mas tree in the Sportcross, and it's great on long trips when it's just me and my wife, but on those backroads it's just not as fun to drive. And the mileage isn't even close. . .

(and boy, i hope Acura paint is better than Lexus paint. . . tons of chips on the IS)

If you have a problem with that, I have no problem with giving you negative rep, and I'm sure many others don't either.
Wow this thread really is a troll magnet.

So there we have it, the TSX is clearly 10x better.
I kid, I kid...

On that note, my friend had a '94 EX, same numbers I think as your '96, also 4AT. We've tested the 0-60 to be about 9.4-9.5 sec.
I think power-to-weight-ratio wise, they're about the same as TSX, but like discussed before tranmission/gearing has alot to do with it, as well as rotational mass, physical conditions, etc. I guess that's where the improvement in performance comes in mainly. Not that I really care about 0-60 times... like darth said, as long as it has enough passing power, etc I'm happy with it
I also have this impression that PWR is not a linear curve realtive to performance.... like the speed curve will drop off as the power keep increasing...dunno how to explain it...
