insurance

I've done a search and looked up several threads about the rates most of you are getting.
Compare to a quote i got today, i have to pay MORE compare to my Prelude??

wth?? i thought driving a more civilized 4 door sedan would lower my rates??
they quote me at around 300/month (CAD)..from what i've seen, most of you are only paying around 200/month.

I have no speeding tickets...and only claimed insurance for one not-at-fault accident.
You guys think i should do more shopping around??

I'm 25 and am paying $180/month for the TSX and my Prelude VTEC combined. I'm with Geico, by the way.

I'm paying $238/mo CDN with TD.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm 24 and have a clean record. No crashes or tickets. Not sure how I've avoided tickets for this long but nonetheless I don't have any.

Those guys are in the US, whole different ballgame.

I'm at about $212 per/month. 27 years old with an at fault accident 5 years ago.

Insurance is also based on the value of your car, and I'm pretty sure the TSX is worth more than your 'Lude.

Damn, I'm getting a great deal. I had my last car (2000 Civic Si) stolen, and I'm still only paying $400 per 6 months for full coverage...

Yes, i am aware of that, but... is just that a lot of people, including the brokers, are saying that driving a 2-door sports coupe has a higher rate compare to 4-door sedan.. especially i'm under 25....

Price goes down with age and record. I'm 26 and I pay $177/month Canadian with RBC Insurance.

They have fairly reasonable rates.

Pleas list the city and state that you reside and distance to work. These are factors that insurance company's look at also. I reside in Camden,NJ - so my insurance for a 2004 TSX is sky high.

Don't have TSX yet but I called to find out what my insurance payment will be and rates came out to $580/6 months, Farmers Ins. (Chicagoland, F, 26, no accidents, no tickets).

How much more are you talking about? The insurance on my TSX is also more than my 98 Prelude, but the difference is only US$19 per 6 months. Considering that my 6 years old Prelude's value is roughly around $9,000 to $9,500 and the TSX is probably $22k - $23k, but it cost just about the same ($19 less per 6 months) to insure the Prelude. To me, I think the TSX is cheaper to insure.

I'm paying $1,063 per 6 months for both the Prelude and the TSX, both my wife and myself, no ticket, no at-fault accident, over 25.

*edited* Just checked Kelley Blue Book, current value (Private Party Value) of the TSX is $26,975, and the Prelude is $8,190.

Lots of factors will impact it:

Impact "comprehensive/collision" portion of insurance:
* Value of the car
* Liklihood of theft of this car in general
* General theft rate in your specific area
* Deductible selected

Impact liability portion of insurance:
* Specific liability limits selected

Impact both:
* Miles driven
* Age of driver
* Marital status of driver
* gender of driver
* Overall driver's record
* Overall risk of accident in the area
* State laws/legal issues that will impact your likely liability in an accident.

Other consideration:
* Actual history of insurance company coming through and paying for your claims to be taken care of to your satisfaction. I'm with a company that's a bit more expensive than some others, because my experience and that of friends has suggested that the company I'm with generally does a good job of paying claims, and some of the cheaper ones tend to fight them, insist on non-original parts, etc.

The cheapest deal isn't always the best. And keep in mind that if you get only the minimum required legal liability insurance and hurt somebody, you could be paying them for a long, long time...

I expect to be paying about $120/mo USD through PEMCO based on a quote they gave me long ago (we'll see when I call them in the next couple of days, having just purchased it). Will carry max on liability and damage etc. and have a relatively low deduct. Will update my post when I get the real number.

Just called my Insurance Co (Cincinnati) to check.

TSX will be about US$1255 / yr ($105/mo), compared to the 2000 Civic Si, currently at US$1049 ($87/mo).

Up, but not as bad as I had thought.

39, single, no tickets last 3 years, no accidents, one claim a couple years ago (~$1500) for vandalism.

Awesome, so you're still free of tickets?

My driving records are almost as perfect as yours, except I received one for careless driving. I wasn't speeding, tail-gating, or carelessly driving, just got unlucky at the wrong time.

I was quote for a renewal with Progressive just 2 days ago... $846 for 6 months... I started doing some search on the forum and I found this thread ... I thought the lady was crazy when she said $846 but after lookin at what most people pay for the TSX insurance... what the quote me sounds about right...

my Deductible is $250 and I asked for higher coverage on comprehensive and collision and I'm 25

Damn that sounds like a good deal. Where are you from? I know when I turn 21 my insurance will go down. And me never having a ticket or a collision will help my insurance as well. $1700 for a year seems a lot better than $2500. I can buy a whole bunch or stuff with that kinda extra cash

DGH i'm currently with State Farm in Cincinnati, who do you have that'll give you $1100 a month. I know you're alot older than me. But I'm sure they'll give me something better than I have now.

In NJ,

I just switched to GEICO from Prudential. The rate dropped from $1220 to $650 for 6 months.

Two cars-TSX and Elantra
100/300 with $500 deductible for TSX only. Definitely no comprehensive for Elantra
Use Elantra most of the time (15K) TSX only for Weekend (3K)
27 Single Guy

I just saved a lot by swithing to Geico.

That's $105/mo, but anyway:

I get mine thru a local broker, but the actual policy is with:

The Cincinnati Insurance Company
Cincinnati, OH 45250
(513) 870-2000

(From the back of my insurance card: I've never dealt directly with them.)

Also consider that I have an umbrella liability with them as well as a household policy, I've been with them for 9 years, and I live in a town of 25,000 (north of Dayton).

All these may be factors as well as the others discussed on this thread.

Can't hurt to call them up anyway.
