Initial Grind
Okay is this normal. Every time I start my car and start driving, after not having driven for a while, it feels like the gears grind for half a second. It does not make an audible sound although you can definitly feel it if you're expecting it. My car has been doing this since I got it and I have about 5000kms on it now. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm sure that I'm not the one who could help you on this, but:
It might be helpful for you to say what you mean by "a while," also whether you have AT or MT.

Wow, that was fast!
Good that you clarified -- it seemed like you probably meant leaving it for a couple of weeks or something.
So basically this means it happens every day!!!

yes, it happens every day. Let me clarify a little. I can not hear the "grind", I can only feel it through the car. It is not a severe vibration but it is noticable. If I thought it was really bad I would have taken it in immediatly.

All Honda 6-speed exhibit this trait (actually so did my '93 MR-2 turbo). S2000s, RSX-S, have it if you shift really fast on a cold gearbox. TSX and CL much less so, but probably because their engines don't rev as high. It's nothing to be worried about. Just pause a split second between shifts when the car is cold and let the synchros catch up.

I've experienced the same thing. On my vehicle, it only occurs just after I start up- when I switch from reverse to forward, i can feel both in the clutch and the gas a slight 'movement' (and i describe it as such because there is no sound, it is simply feels like something is falling into place). At no other point during my drive do I ever feel this- and this does not occur every day. Im hoping its normal!

as everyone said it's the ABS system initializing and doing a quick test -- Colin was saying old ABS systems had a lot of trouble with freezing up with lack of use(solenoids would stop working etc) so by doing a test fire when you start driving it's ensuring that wont' happen.
