immobilizer chip in remote?

Is there any way to get a immobilizer chip for the tsx without taking one out of a remote? I'm looking to do the switchblade mod, but don't want to crack open a remote that I already have. Any idea where I'd get these chips? Is there even any way to do this?

Thanks

Just get a spare key if you don't want to damage the one that you have.

The mod requires an immobilizer chip from a TSX remote to be placed in a TL Switchblade key. I'd rather not pay $85 (quoted from dealer) for another remote that I'm just going to take the functionality out of... thats why I want to know where/if I can find an immobilizer chip.

Even if you get another immobilizer chip, you'll still have to pay someone to program it. The point of taking it out of the existing key is that it will already be programmed. If you're not going to go down that route, you might as well pay for a ready made key and get someone to program it.

Better yet, just keep the immobilizer in the TL key and have it programmed. Short of knowing someone with the Honda tablet, you gotta have Acura or Honda program it for you if you don't hack one out of a current key.

Bro, You have it WRONG. The immobolizer chips are in the key itself not the stock remotes that come with the car and remotely unlock your door. You would have to saw off the plastic on either one of your 3 keys(valet recommended) and take it out of there. It's a really fragile process and its very easy to destroy your imobilizer chip. Your better off buying the modded TL key by FLBUsa and programming it. You can have up to 4 keys programmed with your ecu.

You can buy a remote and program it to open the doors yourself. Therefore there are two things you need programmed, the remote, and the ignition key. The remote part of the TL key you can do yourself and the ignition key part needs to be programmed by a dealer and if you have a '06 and below some mastered locksmiths. Make sure you bring all your keys if you will get a new one programmed.

So, let me see if I understand this 100%. To get a 07 TL Switchblade key to work in a TSX, you pretty much need to change the immobilizer (because the 07 TL and TSX are NOT compatible) and have the key milled for the TSX. Is this correct? Am I missing anything else? From the DIY threads I've seen, the only thing that is replaced in the TL switchblade would be the immobilizer and the key to match the car. I'm assuming that FLBusa is doing - the reason I'm doing it myself is because I can't get in reach with him, so I figured I'd give it a shot myself. Thanks for everyone posting in the thread, if I do go through with this, I will be sure to post pictures.

1. The immobilizer chips are in the black plastic of the OEM TSX key and in the TL switchblade body
2. The TL and TSX use the same immobilizer chips
3. The reason ppl hack a chip out of an OEM TSX key is to avoid having to pay getting the TL key programmed.
a. Some dealership won't do it b/c it is a modification and don't want to be responsible for it
b. Dealerships charge anywhere from $0 to $80 to do the programming
4. All FLBusa is doing is milling the TL key to match the slots and key area like ours because the TL switchblade in OEM format is like the Accord key, a laser cut key and ours is the run of the mill key profile.

Hope that helps. I used to do the Accord key mod for folks here, so I've got plenty of answers about operability of keys across models.

Thanks a ton. That was extremely useful, and much appreciated. That pretty much cleared up everything.

I bought a switchblade kek from flbusa but the locksmith messed it up when cutting. Is there a way just to get the metal key part (blank one) or am i screwed and have to buy the whole thing again? I know that the metal key part is contained inside a plastic which also has the chip buried in it (the part that swings open) Please help!

I'm pretty sure that you're screwed. Although the key part is separate from the remote part, flbusa mills the metal key part to be used. Best bet is to contact FLBusa and talk to him, see if he can help you out, or see if someone is interested in buying the remote to recoup some of the money. Lastly, you can try the mod and cut up the switchblade key and place the regular key into the switchblade (bypass the cutting). either way, good luck.

You're screwed. I had the same issue. The best thing to do in the future is to have that part of the key removed from the until and have them cut it. For whatever reason, that remote case gets in the way of cutting the key. Wasn't an issue when I had FLBusa cut me an Accord key.
