immobilizer chip in remote?
immobilizer chip in remote?
Is there any way to get a immobilizer chip for the tsx without taking one out of a remote? I'm looking to do the switchblade mod, but don't want to crack open a remote that I already have. Any idea where I'd get these chips? Is there even any way to do this?
Thanks
Thanks
The mod requires an immobilizer chip from a TSX remote to be placed in a TL Switchblade key. I'd rather not pay $85 (quoted from dealer) for another remote that I'm just going to take the functionality out of... thats why I want to know where/if I can find an immobilizer chip.
Even if you get another immobilizer chip, you'll still have to pay someone to program it. The point of taking it out of the existing key is that it will already be programmed. If you're not going to go down that route, you might as well pay for a ready made key and get someone to program it.
Better yet, just keep the immobilizer in the TL key and have it programmed. Short of knowing someone with the Honda tablet, you gotta have Acura or Honda program it for you if you don't hack one out of a current key.

The immobolizer chips are in the key itself not the stock remotes that come with the car and remotely unlock your door. You would have to saw off the plastic on either one of your 3 keys(valet recommended) and take it out of there. It's a really fragile process and its very easy to destroy your imobilizer chip. Your better off buying the modded TL key by FLBUsa and programming it. You can have up to 4 keys programmed with your ecu.

So, let me see if I understand this 100%. To get a 07 TL Switchblade key to work in a TSX, you pretty much need to change the immobilizer (because the 07 TL and TSX are NOT compatible) and have the key milled for the TSX. Is this correct? Am I missing anything else? From the DIY threads I've seen, the only thing that is replaced in the TL switchblade would be the immobilizer and the key to match the car. I'm assuming that FLBusa is doing - the reason I'm doing it myself is because I can't get in reach with him, so I figured I'd give it a shot myself. Thanks for everyone posting in the thread, if I do go through with this, I will be sure to post pictures.

2. The TL and TSX use the same immobilizer chips
3. The reason ppl hack a chip out of an OEM TSX key is to avoid having to pay getting the TL key programmed.
a. Some dealership won't do it b/c it is a modification and don't want to be responsible for it
b. Dealerships charge anywhere from $0 to $80 to do the programming
4. All FLBusa is doing is milling the TL key to match the slots and key area like ours because the TL switchblade in OEM format is like the Accord key, a laser cut key and ours is the run of the mill key profile.
Hope that helps. I used to do the Accord key mod for folks here, so I've got plenty of answers about operability of keys across models.
