If you cant afford to put Premium gas in the TSX then dont buy one. Who agrees with this. It is stupid to put regular fuel in the tsx.

I agree, but don't really care what people do with their cars.

And this could get ugly from both people disagreeing with you and people calling repost.

It's one of the many financial reasons that I bought an Accord.

well I was just talking to a friend who told me that he put regular in his. I mean why would you want to put less quality fuel in if something else is what was recommended.

Honda would not have said to do so if it wasnt needed.

Let it get ugly, I am up for standing my ground.

People will do what they do. Nothing we say can change that. Is this thread even worth the effort?

But in reality what are you saving? Lets imagine your V6 Accord and the TSX get equal mileage which they don't but its close. An empty tank on both requires 55L of fuel. 55L @ .90 is $49.50. 55L @ 1.00 is $55. Imagine 50 fill ups a year and its $250.

Now factor in the TSX's superior mileage and you save maybe $150-200 a year. Not saying you made the wrong choice as the Accord coupe is a great car, just saying fuel concerns are not a very strong case for going one way or the other.

So what if you use 87 for a few days.... or get one of those octane bosters. I live in South FL and 93Octane is already at 3.22 anymore than 3.50 and its going to start to hurt.

At most the premium stuff is only 20 cents a gallon more. So if you put 15 gallons of 87 in you're only saving $3. Can you really not afford that? And how much would that "octane booster" cost you? LOL

Not to mention, lower octane means lower performance (and even lower MPG if you try to compensate for the lost power) so you're not saving anything by running the cheap stuff.

Where's that guy who was insistent on using 87 because every penny counts. He'll set you straight CCC. Can't remember his username or the thread.

I voted yes, but that first fill-up was painful. Almost $50! It wasn't long ago when a fill-up using cheapo gas for my old cheapo car was about half that much.

Well, they recommend 91, and Sunoco's probably the only one around my area that offers 91. And there isn't one around thats equipped with 91 anywhere near by, so I just use 89.

The tone of this topic is confrontational, but taking that out of it, I get the idea. I voted no....people can make their own decisions, it ain't my car or my dime. I'll use 91 100% of the time.

I look at it this way: the premium for premium has dropped about 40%, vs the prices that were in effect two years ago.

In TO, drivers used to fork out about 15% more for high test; now it's about 9%: you're getting a deal buying the good stuff now, and you get to feel good about helping your great-grandchildren, too, because you don't need a larger engine to pull the family around, and you've having more fun while you're at it.

This thread is pretty ugly, just as Dom predicted. It's shelf life shall be short.

Personally, I agree in general, but I voted no, because things aren't always black and white, and that statement is just so narrow I'd like to shy away from it.

I think someone a while ago put it very well that if you drive an average of 20K miles a year at 22MPG. Premium is usually $0.20 more than regular and that'll save you a whopping ~$181 a year or around $15 a month.

If you enjoy ordering soda with your meal instead of water and eat out ~7 times a week with soda being ~$1.50.. that's $42 a month on putting 24 OZ of HFCS in your body making you unhealthy and fat...

So people save your body, spend some more on your car and keep it healthy and yourself healthy.

And yes.. if you are too cheap to put premium in a TSX, don't buy one.

heres the math:

the Acura TSX gets 22-31mpg which is 10% higher than the Accord EX V6 (which a lot of people compare it to... including myself while i was looking). The way i think about it is, i am getting 10% more gas mileage and only paying 7% more in cost... basic economics.

This is based on the gas prices being at 2.94 for low grade and 3.14 for high, which it is here right now.

The higher the gas prices... the better deal it is for us.
