I think I made a mistake in buying the TSX!

Actually, it's a 36 month lease I just picked up about 3 weeks ago. I love it. But I thought that the 350Z was more than the TSX, until I just priced it, and it's pretty much the same price, at least the "base" model is (all engines are 287hp BTW).

Damn,.. only thing is though. My insurance would have definitely been higher. My insurance quote for the '04 GTI was higher than for the TSX.

I'm just kicking myself over this. I love the TSX, but...

Anybody want to buy my lease out?

I paid 26K for my TSX, the Z out here goes base for like 29K...guess it's still in high demand?

To me you were considering two totally different types of cars.....Sport/lux sedan vs sport coupe Don't understand how you can regret that??

New vs material for ya's!!

I regret it because I assumed the Z cost more than it does. I'd pick the Z in a heartbeat over the TSX if cost was even (insurance included). The base is according to the Nissan site is just a little over 27k. I don't know about insurance though.

YB, what year was your Z? Maybe production has been tweaked improved?

4 did you get a 4 door if you couldn't afford the 2door? Could've gone for the RX8, somewhat of a comprimise?

Why would you want a base Z? I see the MSRP is 27k, but that's no HID, cloth interior. Good engine, but a pretty poorly equiped car at that level.

No HID's huh? Didn't realize that. That's actually kind of a big deal to me believe it or not.

I LOVE the Z design. I almost don't care about anything else.

I don't like the RX-8 design. I think it's ugly.

I think I'll call my dealer and see if he'll take it back. (Yeah right) I'd better stay away from the Nissan dealer.

This thread is totally illogical. The TSX and Z aren't similar in any way other than they're both Japanese and have four wheels.

So.. if this thread is 'illogical' (btw, is that a word?), can I proclaim in the name of PWin?

It's totally logical in my eyes because I was basing my decision on many factors. Before the TSX I was looking into:

Buy:
1) '91 Mitsubishi 3000GT
2) '91 Nissan 300ZX
3) '91 Porsche 944S

Finance:
4) '97 BMW ///M3
5) '03 VW Jetta GLI (VR6)

Lease:
6) '04 VW GTI VR6
7) '04 Acura TSX

So, as you can see, I was ALL over the place on this one.

BTW, they're also similar in price.

Why would you buy a car without being educated enough to buy the car? I applaud your choice though. You accidentally bought a fantastic car.

not a big VW fan with all the reliabilty issues of late...

the 3000gt and the z would have been great though. The 3000's AWD has a tendency to cause probs though. And we all should know how much care it takes to maintain a Porsche don't we?

And price similarities don't mean the cost of ownership will be the same, just like you mentioned with your insurance costs.

Actually, if you check the Z forums many Z owners have had problems with the tranny....I read up on em a while back because I was interested in getting one...don't know if newer production models are having the same problems though...ya gotta figure that motor trend, car and driver have had these things for at or over a year now.....

NO !

This seems illogical to me as well as you "presumed" the Z cost 29K, would it have killed you to check for yourself before buying the TSX? Who does'nt check prices of pretty much everything before they buy?

If this is in fact a mistake that you want to fix, its going to be a pretty expensive mistake. I'd live with the mistake...errrr TSX.

the 3000gt/stealth's awd is actually quite stout. it's the entire tranny, t-case, and 18 spline output shaft that will give you hell. :thumbsdn:

It does seem a little weird that you'd have buyers remorse based on assumptions (rather than research) about a different car's price and features.

Top it off with posting on a TSX forum, and you're really asking for trouble

I think a lot of us TSX owners value reliability and features above exterior styling and HP. Sounds like you're more into the latter. I, too, appreciate the styling of the Z, but I'd never consider buying one. Maybe you'll feel better if you do a bit more research on the Z, and you might find out that the market price (with xenons) and cost of ownership of the Z are way beyond that of the TSX

Enjoy the TSX, and better luck with your next car purchase.

codeman: $357 per month for 36 months.

Check my sig for pics.

Look I wanted to go with a more adult car, ok?

But the kid in me still wants a "sports car". I'm sure this was just an impulsive thought. I know that the TSX is more car than the "base" Z. I just feel the lack of punch from 4-cyl. The GLI actually felt more fun to drive (200hp VR6), but yeah, I know ... reliability, reliability, reliability.

For reference Intellichoice has the base 350 ownership cost over 5 years at ~$2k more than the TSX manual/non-navi.
