He maybe meant to say something along the lines of until his tankfull of 87 was diluted completely.

Exactly...what is really that hard to understand? Just meant that I kept putting in premium appx. every time it was down 1/4 tank until eventually the 87 was gone. I didn't think it was that hard to understand .

it'll buff right out... oops wrong thread!

j/k, but I did this a while ago after a wedding. I was tired and buzzed and the tank was empty. I didn' realize until the tank was half full that I was putting in 87 octane. I then filled the rest with 93, and tried to keep the revs down. Car didn't complain, and when i filled up the next time, I was able to rev to my heart's content.

I alwyas use premium, but with regular ...
... for every 10,000 miles, you save about $65 to $110 dollars, considering overall MPG of about 29 - 30 .

well, i'm asking because, they recommend using premium for a reason, and, if you could afford a nearly $30,000 car, couldnt you afford the extra 2-3 dollars per fill up?????

Putting regular in to save $65 a year seems kinda lame, don't you think?

Typo, always.

And the number is assuming that TSX gets the same fuel efficiency between premium and regular gas.

The funny thing is, one spits the "saving" right back out once the overall MPG (for 10,000 miles) drops 2 or 3.

Humm..., magarita .

oh c'mon now. I did preface the fact I had just gotten out of a wedding and was extremely tired/buzzed. Oh, I was on the hunt for a White Castle in the area too. The girlfriend was back in the hotel room craving some slyders!

Also, Mobil arranges their grades differently than BP and Shell. They put premium in the middle, I think.

better gas on 87!

I got something f'd up for ur noggins to chew on here that'll raise a question or two also im sure. I bought my '05 navi with a 5at about 2 months ago. Was using premium from shell and pissed cuz i didn't feel like i was getting the highway mileage advertised and was tight on money that week. So i said screw it, couldn't be any worse with the 87. . .
This is jacked but i get around 480 miles (according to trip computer) with regular, as compared to around 380 with the premium. These are same driving conditions and driving back and forth to work, all highway. I dont really know about a difference in acceleration either or knock and pinging. Havn't really noticed either except MAYBE off of the line a little??

Congra on getting 480+ miles on one tank of gas. Though, the increase is probably due the car past the break-in period.

After this tank of 87 finishes, go back to 91 and let us know if it stays at 480 or if it drops back down to 380.

sure thing, i dont think i've actually tried 91 anyways. it'll be interesting to see what happens. Does anyone use 91 instead of 93 or is everyone religous 93 users?

The says 91, so I try to stick with 91 if I can. Of course, some gas stations in Vt only keep 93, so at least more octane won't hurt.

Here in SoCal I haven't seen 93. Its 91 all the way, just like the manual says.

he said it's an 05 that he got 2 months ago, i'm betting it's well beyond breakin.

according to my family's mechanic, who is not your typical mechanic, he's my dad's buddy from high school, working on cars his entire life, and races cars on the side....if the car was broken in on 87 octane, the car will be fine on 87 octane. now this can of course be debated, but the break-in period does pretty much dictate what the ecu learns, and if it learned to drive on 87, then your situation makes sense to me....you'd have to retrain the car onto premium, and you'd eventually get the mileage with the premium and the better performance (since the ecu is also limiting performance on the 87). now, the mechanic says the performance difference isn't even noticeable, as his brother uses regular in his pickup that recommends premium and he's towing a trailer with a drag racer in it.....again, there's 1,000,000 opinions on this, just giving this guy's view.

i personally believe that if the manufacturer recommends premium, they're doing it for a reason, i don't believe that regular will damage the car, even if you use it forever, but some people do.

i use Sunoco 91 since Sunoco is one of the only brands in jersey that has 91 at their pumps, I also prefer Sunoco over other brands. I use BP occasionally also. I refuse to give exxon/mobile my money, not that it makes a difference in their $40 billion profits. anyways, 91 is fine, 93 is fine, it's just that some companies in jersey only have 93 at their stations (sheist bastards trying to get more money for something that really adds no benefit over 91 - in my experiences).

Different "break-in". You meant the first 600-mile break-in period, yet, the MPG will continue to get better for the next few thousand miles.

Just wondering... when you guys are talking about your car's MPG do you calculate it by hand, or go off of what your electronic display says?

I'm in my break-in period (400 miles) and the display showed 35.7MPG after a 80 mile trip the other day @ 72MPH (on cruise). ......... Then it dropped back down to 24 MPG after driving around town a bit
