I need your thoughts..08 Acura TSX Navi 43k miles

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acura...5fTrucks#v4-75

Hi guys,

I want your thoughts about this car, I went to check it out yesterday and I test drove it twice however, the car has been in 2 accidents (one involving fire) according to the carfax. Theres some major scratches on it but it does drive nicely. The interior is really nice however, I just can't get over the fact its been in 2 accidents ...probably explains why its 14,995. I should pass right?

Accidents can mean lingering problems....for just a bit more, you can get something accident free. I would keep looking.....

I agree with JPSMAN, keep looking. A nice interior is easy to achieve with replacement parts. I think the word "fire' for me would be a deal killer, no matter how cheap. And those chrome door edge guards, yowsa! Good luck in your searching.

I did check it out, interior is fantastic. Exterior def has some major scratches...it does drive smoothly but it does need new brake pads too, he offered to take care of it and give me 2500 towards my 05 suzuki forenza (almost 106k miles) but im gonna try for 3000 for my car and for him to take care of all the scratches and brake pads but the fire issue does bother me

what kind of warranty is there on the car. If it were still the factory one-would it still be in effect if there was a fire. Do they know what was on fire. needing brake pads is not a problem-that is just a normal wear and tear thing. Get as much as you can and make sure it is in writing. Verbal is sometimes forgotten.

Yeah, I agree with this sentiment. And since you asked..... I wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole (as the saying goes)(and anything this new should have a nice interior). Fire? see yaaaaaaah. Too many nice ones out there (and don't be afraid to go for an 07) for not much more. And if that's not enough, see what kind of title it has. If it's a salvage title, you might have trouble getting insurance.

Thanks guy for all of your input.

I went there again today and inspected (and test drove it a 3rd time) and everything was fine. Looked under the hood, no charred parts, no burned marks anywhere. Very Clean. Carfax is a great tool for a car buyer, however it lacks significant detail regarding accidents. This "fire" could've been many things. Obviously, it wasn't totaled, the car didnt explode and its a clean title. Could've been the other vehicle that caught fire. Who knows - so many possibilities but theres really no evidence that the car had any fire. Aside from some scratches, the car is great. They offered me $3000 for my trade in (see above) which reduced the price down to $11,995 excluding taxes. My trip home was an 1 hr 45 min south and it performed very nicely.

I'm extremely happy (so far) with my purchase and after eyeballing the TSX for a few years now (esp after my dad had an 05 TSX) and finally buying a car on my own, I'm thrilled. The car's got everything and I'm going to put a spoiler on it and tint the windows. I finally have a hot car and I'm ecstatic. The original warranty is in effect until 50k or September '11 and then theres an extended power train warranty and all that good stuff so I feel good.

Thanks again though for your input. Even though I asked last minute, it was very informative. Needless to say, I'm a proud owner of an Acura Looking forward to becoming more active now on this board.

Congrats! Welcome to the forums.

Since the car wasn't salvaged and the original warranty is still valid, the accident and fire probably weren't as big of a deal as it looks on paper. We all imagine fire as something raging out of control, but if it took out the engine or car, it would have totaled the car (and you'd be facing a salvage title). Obviously the insurance believed the car was repairable.

Glad you took the route and inspect the car in person and get the facts. Good luck and drive safe.
