Looks like you won the battle but that deer put up a good fight. Hope the dealer can get you back on the road good as new.

That left a mark!! I am concerned about the airbags not deploying. Was the impact between your car and the deer heavy? I read about airbags and how they deploy and a big factor in deployment is the change in velocity (delta V). I would have thought that your accident would have triggered them. Maybe that's why I am in insurance instead of engineering. Good luck on your repair. I would not worry to much about insurance premium increases. Comprehensive claims such as striking an animal rarely if ever result in surcharges.

yeah they work with MEMs accelerometers which measure the acceleration (dV) and if the acceleration breaks a certain threshold it will deploy...from my understanding the acceleration has to be really significant to cause that...hitting a 60-100lb deer at 60 most likely wont cause enough of a impact to generate that much acceleration and therefore wont deploy, if he hit a moose (several hundred pounds) i bet it would have been a big enough impact for them to deploy...

Let me get this straight.... You hit a poor, unfortunate deer and now you "hate deer". Why don't you thank God that you were not hurt, and quit acting like a spoiled little prick.

Here's a Tree,

Go Hug it.

It was accident and obviously it wasn't the deer's fault but I can see why 803Twon is pissed. He just ruined his $27,xxx or whatever car. LET HIM VENT.

Domn and Dan - Did Acurazine recently merge with PETA?

I loves all of Gods creatures also, but lets be realistic here.

Not that I'm aware, but it would appear that Deer's life is far more valuable than we thought.

I don't hunt because I don't have it in me to kill a innocent creature but if I hit something with my car accidentally your damn right I'd be pissed......until of course I calmed down and realized that noone is at fault.

Word. If that would've happened to me i would've gotten out and kicked the shit out of the deer. I think he's taking it rather nicely.

where did all these deer-loving comments come from??

If it came down to me hitting a deer or swerving and killing myself of some other innocent people, you better believe the deer is going down. Too bad it wasn't a buck with a good rack, because then you could have had a nice souvenir.

I wish there was some device that would keep deer away from speeding cars. Many years ago I bought a set of those little plastic "horns," that get mounted on the front of one's car. but apparently they're worthless.
You and the deer are *both* victims, and I'm truly sorry for you *both.*

The bag will only deploy if the car comes to a very sudden halt (hope this is correct English/American ). Hitting a dear will not slow the car down enough to deploy the bags.

I feel the same as Dan if it came down to it i'm going to hit an animal vs. endangering me or anyone else.

Maybe the airbags also didn't go off since there seems to be no damage to the bumper. Isn't that where the impact sensor are?
Almost looks like the deer tried to jump over the car but didn't clear the hood. Deer without vertical = dead deer.

Glad you are OK. A person at my wife' workplace died in a car vs. deer accident.

As for the deer, I used to be not so big on hunting, but I think being shot is much more humane than being run over. I see at least 2-3 dead deer/week on the side of the road during my commute back and forth from work.

Also, at least here in PA, there are so freakin many of them...I got them literally in my backyard all the time. So often, in fact, that my dog doesn't even bother barking at them anymore.
