I felt vindicated...
My friends are quick to point out how low-tech I am. The irony is that I work for a large software company and my team actually spends a lot of time working with emerging media and other more cutting-edge/infant technologies...
I have a 4:3 rear-projection CRT television, analog cablevision, a single-ended tube amplifier, vintage horn-loaded speakers, etc. I have a Blackberry that was given to me by my work, and I can barely use it.
My friends are always pointing out how out of the loop I am, citing their widescreen HDTVs, Blu-Ray DVD players, ultra-powerful cell phones, etc.
When I bought my TSX, I deliberately got one that didn't have Navigation. I admire the TSX for its relative simplicity and high degree of integration. It is technology that I can live with, and it isn't always in my face. That decision has also earned me some friendly criticism, as you can imagine.
I was finally vindicated last night on a trip back from Charlotte to Raleigh (approximately 170 miles). This picture was taken after approximately 80 miles or so of driving. My speed varied between 55 and 65, though there was a brief jump to the top of 3rd gear (over 70) for passing someone. Obviously I took the non-freeway route home. The MID is known to be fairly accurate with steady cruising... and at this point it indicates 38.3mpg. Finally, I have something to brag about... for I can claim the highest fuel economy by far! HA! Eat it!!!

Good for you on the braggin rights.
As far as "keeping up with the Joneses'" on technology, hopefully you can point the fact that you have that money you save working for you, rather than depreciating on a technology that'll be obsolete in a month.

BTW BlackBerries aren't hard to use at all. I have the pearl. Their OS is pretty efficient.

could be your just cheap and choose not to invest in high-tech gadgets? then again there's nothing wrong with being cheap. you weren't even driving the speed limit, last time i remember the speed limit was 70mph~ trying to save money on gas?
the $2,000 it costed for the navi was well worth it and i don't regret it. the navi has taken me to places i've never been because i no longer have fear of getting lost. it's priceless, even if i only use it a few times a month.
it also adds some resale value if i decide to sell the car. it's the only thing i can think of that has no downsides when it comes to the TSX.

I get your point.
Although I agree with your points on how technology is constantly changing and its not viable unless it's ease of use and integration is high,
I find it that your statement can be contradicting.
You like the non-navi TSX because of this simple and good integration, but you can get better integration from the navi TSX. Everything is off of the touch screen and is also voice activated.
Either way, good job on the 38 mpg, and give us any more tips on how to achieve that.

Speed limit on NC49 is 55 mph. It's a very rural and dark twisting two-lane road through the Uwharrie Mountains. Doing anywhere from 55 to 65 is more than sufficient. Perhaps I would be more comfortable going faster during the day when deer and other road obstacles are more visible.
I didn't want the Navigation system because I don't like the clutter and I have a good sense of direction. The fact that I could save money (as if I really needed to) by opting out is just a bonus.

Anyway, I'm glad some of you understood the light-hearted nature of my post and could relate to my fuel economy "victory" against my friends.

Congrats on the great MPG!
But I fail to see the correlation between your technological ineptness and getting good MPG?
How exactly is this being vindicated? You would have gotten the same MPG on a Navi and the car would have still told you what you were getting?

I know where you are coming from with the explosion of technology in society. We are conditioned to purchase the latest and greatest techno gadget available every 3-6 months down the road. The only thing we accomplish is getting the tech companies rich and we are getting more in debt. I work in the technology field (IT specialist) and I prefer the simple life every once in a while.
My buddy at work has a previous gen G35 and 19mpg is his average with 22 mpg his highest on the hwy. I average 29 mpg driving back from Toas, NM, last weekend with my cruise set on 85 mph.

Uh... slow and steady wins the race?
I always have a little smile on my face when I bend over at the pump after a 30+mpg tank. At least you know you're getting yours out of it while you are passing enormo-SUVs left and right.

NICE MPG! I love to see the car is capable of that - further vindication for me not getting another hybrid. Don't sweat the technology either - I also work in high-tech software and to be honest the last thing I want to do in my private life is deal with more high-tech gadgets. Like the 50 hrs a week I'm neck-deep in it isn't enough. The cell phone is the big deal for me - spend all week on the phone and using a computer, why would I want one strapped to my hip all the time? When I'm feeling real rebelious I've been know to......read a book. (gasp). On paper with ink and everything - you know, not from an i-Pod or PDA.

This arguement is foolish. I definately congratulate on the high mpg. However, electronics dont really hurt your mpg. I think what you are saying is the simplicity of not having every electronic or messing with your car. Ive actually heard people on here with minor mods and extreme driving bragging about getting less than 20 mpg

Non-Nav FTW!!!
Great roads in the Uhwarrie area!!
I hit that area in the fall instead of the Blue Ridge Parkway, way too busy.
I know about deer in that area....just ask my old Grand Am
On a side note;
I drove to LA (Lower Alabama) Memorial Day weekend and got ~35.5 mpg. Going anywhere between 70 and 80 with the A/C on. Did the whole trip, 480 miles, on one tank. Had I not hit a little traffic south of Charlotte and in Atlanta, I would've easily gotten 500 on the tank.
