How/where to mount Garmin 205W on my TSX?

I have searched and searched and read some interesting threads, but I still have some questions.

I want to mount my new B-Day gift (Garmin Nuvi 205W) to the right of the radio. I might get the dash bag but I would prefer if away from the dash and a little more hidden. I've been to proclip.com and they have a clip they show mounted to the left side of the radio. I assume that can be mounted on the other side as well. Do I need to buy both parts, the clip and the mount? That would be about $80 which seems expensive.

Keep in mind, I don't want to use any adhesives on my GPS or my car. I don't understand how the proclip clip attaches to the mount. Is is fairly stable? I'd love to see a picture of the GPS mounted there to be sure if anyone has done this before.

Here's where I put mine to give you another perspective. It's not the location where you'd like to have it. I chose this location because it's closer to my driving line of vision, within reach, and also out off the way of the airbags. Also here in California, it's against rules to attach a device on the front windshield.

The mounting plate is fixed to the top of the vent. I use the suction mount on top of the plate. My set up obscures the clock, but it's no biggy.

I have the kuda mount. Keeps it low and out of the line of sight. I'll take pictures of my TomTom on it when I get off work tonight and post them. Also keeps it right next to the 12v socket so I don't have the charger cable draped down the dash.

X 2 on this setup. Mine is shifted slightly closer to the driver so it is easier to reach. Double sided tape keeps the NUVI 255 unit held down. Perfect and no suction marks on the windshield.

Is the double-sided tape easily removable? I might have to borrow a GPS for a weekend trip to Mississauga and don't want to damage my dash (specifically the area in front of the clock) by sticking double-sided tape on there and having it gum up or stain/ruin that plastic.

^^That issue concerned me too - discoloration of the black plastic that's over the vents. I know if/when I remove the mounting plate, I'll use Goo Gone to remove the tape.

I had this setup on my 05 TSX before I traded it in for the 06. The double sided tape came up fine (alittle water helped to moisten) and do not recall any discoloration. I had the GPS mounted for a year.

This is how we mounted a Garmin 660 into my Mazda 6 GT. We ordered a special cell phone bracket with different holes with about 50 different combinations to mount things to it. And the we had to order a Ram mount made for the garmin so it could be bolted to the bracket. This place will also keep your sight lines clear , making it safer.
This 1st picture shows where it is, of course it will be in a little differnent place in the TSX buy you get the idea.

This pic shows how we mounted the bracket into the space. You can also see the Ram mount onto bracket.

I used the suction on the winshield and mounted it right under the rearview mirror. I thought it looked fine. I just have the cable running down. Once it's fully charged, they say it can run for about 4 hours. I don't mind the suction marks, a little windex and they're gone.
I'll probably get a friction mount at some time too.

PACman, where did you run your power cable, or was your Garmin charged and that is why I don't see the cable?

^^No cable shown in the pictures. My Garmin is usually fully charged prior to heading out to my destination(s), and battery life is typically 3-4 hrs. when signal strength is strong, which is plenty of time for me to get somewhere here is LA county. When I do have to power up, the cable runs to the right of the dash to the "Not an Ashtray" plug.

Scroll down about half a page here to see how I use my Garmin 660. http://www.gpspassion.com/FORUMSEN/t...9&whichpage=51.

It's not what you had in mind, but it uses no other hardware, no adhesives, and it can be hidden completely.

Sorry it took so long to get it up here, but this is how I have mine mounted. I have a Kuda mount with their universal cell phone mount holding my iPod touch. The TomTom is mounting using the OEM suction cup mount. The TomTom also came with an adhesive disk (round piece of plastic with double sticky tape on the back of it) that's stuck to the front of the Kuda mount. The cords are out of the way when its in use. Its not in my field of view and at night, its not blinding. It faces the driver pretty well and text input is a heck of a lot easier down there than it is on the windshield.

Of course, iPod cable isn't necessary anymore as I have installed an iSimple adapter, but on long trips I prefer to have the touch mounted there. Its easier to navigate music that way.

u could hardwire your nuvi and have a power cable that would come from the dashboard left vent and clip the "Arkon GN047 Removable Vent Mount" and your nuvi on the vent. The best solution for me, as I can take off, both the clip and the nuvi when i want to. the clip is $7. BEst solution i could come with, as anything else seemed too intriisve for me. I don't want something dangling off the wndshield or on the side of the radio.

I am a new member, I will post pics of what i have done as soon as i can.
I bought the Pioneer F500Bt GPS/ Ipod cable.
All i did was hide all the wires and took out the CD bin above the "not an ash tray" and made a custom mont and sides.

pics soon as I can post.
