How Much Is Your American TSX Really Worth To A Canadian??

Here my beef with the taxes/levvies on foreign products coming into Canada...

Based on the base model MSRP (5AT) here are the current prices for vehicles north and south of the border.

CANADA:

BASE PRICE: $35,900
FREIGHT/PDI: $1,430
14% TAX: $5,599.50

TOTAL PRICE BASE: $42,929 CDN.

UNITED STATES:

BASE PRICE: $27,890
DESTINATION: $670
8% TAX: $2284

TOTAL PRICE BASE: $30,844 USD.

Here's the comparison...

Exchage rate is about 1.10 to 1.11 fluctuating.

So with the exchange... $42,929 CDN divided by 1.10 = $39,026 USD

It is actually almost $10,000 dollars more to purcahse a TSX in Canada... what a rip-off!!! And with the ridiculously low financing rates in the USA most TSX drivers here in Canada would be driving RL'S for the amount of money we spent!!!

The options are way more expensive here too!!!!

I paid nearly $4500 for the A-SPEC parts on my car... it's only about $2000 for the complete package in the U.S.

So all you Americans better love those prices and run with them while you can, because George W. will eventually follow his isolationist policy makers to the grave. However, everyone country in the world needs to export to America, so things may never change.

JUST SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT!!

OH my sour grapes and doom for U.S. from the north........at least look at your taxes as one source of the price difference...of course that too is somehow GWs fault.....by the way the tax on a new car purchase here (TX) is 6.25%....

So can we keep it to autos at this site...thank you

Lets not factor in Taxes because taxes vary from province to province, state to stae and every has to pay taxes and taxes don’t change that much.

Lets also not factor in Freight and PDI because those are basically set by dealerships. Some dealerships will negotiate on freight and PDI.

The only thing left to factor is exchange rate.

Lets look at the exchange rate when it was about 1.30.

CANADA:
BASE PRICE: $35,900 CAD
TOTAL PRICE BASE: $35,900 divided by 1.30 = $27,615 USD

UNITED STATES:
BASE PRICE: $27,890 USD

Lets look at the exchange rate now which is about 1.10.

CANADA:
BASE PRICE: $35,900 CAD
TOTAL PRICE BASE: $35,900 divided by 1.10 = $32,636 USD

UNITED STATES:
BASE PRICE: $27,890 USD

Was anyone complaining about cost of a car when the CAD dollar was so low for the longest time?

and when the exchange was at 1.50, not too long ago, things were really in Canada's favor. So much so that they had to stop honoring the warranty as a way to prevent the Americans from buying north fo the border. Its cyclic.

We Canadians can reap the benefits.

I live in Canada, my brother just bought a Porche Boxter S in which he bought from a US dealer and had it shipped here to Canada. After paying shipping charges, duties and Canadian Taxes he got it for almost $20000 cheaper this way. The US dealer even added DLR's and changed the cluster to read in Km (all just programming).

I almost bought my TSX this way, I only would of saved about 3-5k this way, (almost) not worth the hassle. More and more people are doing this especially on higher priced cars or even used cars. There are used car dealers in Canada making a killing by doing this. They import from the US, take advantage of the currency exchange with its saving as well as the TAX saving for dealers, sell the car to a buyer and woila, ROLLING IN IT!! Hmmmm, now that I think about.... not a bad idea

LIke how narci stated....its becuase of the low exchange rate....

Before we get plenty of US money coming in since the US tourists consider everything so cheap they were spending the dollars up here and helping the economy...but this past year....pretty sure its down.
