Hi there,
Just wondering how many out there who have a 5AT drive in the manual mode?... and do you like the performance better if noticeable?...

I leave the computer to shift for me at 1st and 2nd becasue the computer can shift faster than me. After that I shift myself.

How about you use it to shift up and save gas considering the prices these days

I like to use the manual mode about half the time while driving on the freeway or trying to merge. I swear people don't know how to merge or are just rude and don't let me in so I have to speed up to cut them off. Its also fun to use while driving on some curvy backroads.

I use it about 10% of the time. If in "performance" you mean being able to specifically pick the shift points for specific situations then yes. If you are asking whether its faster in SS mode, its not.

I'm in manual about 35% of my time. If I want to take off quick from I stop I always in SS mode. Since the power is up in the RPM range, I gotta let her rev.

I also use it on the freeway sometimes if I want to pass very quickly.

it feels faster to shift on acceleration, but when i'm already at cruising, i put it back on "D5" so that i can just relax until the next red light occurs then i shift it back to ss mode

I use the manual mode on my TSX from time to time...most frequently to downshift because I enjoy the engine and exhaust note when the car downshifts. I did, however, use the manual mode tonight when I ran against a late 1990's Integra and the car performed well. As I have noted before, however, my TSX could use some extra power and if anyone knows how to achieve that please let me know.

When in LA traffic I leave it auto. Not as if I'm ever going to get past 2nd - 3rd gear and it keeps my hand free for the manditory hand gestures when I get cut off by someone who thinks being 1 car length ahead in bumper to bumper traffic going 20mph is going to make a world of difference.

Heck if I get over 35mph on the 405 I get really excited.

I use it if i want to Vtec since it's much easier to keep the RPM's up with the manual mode. With auto mode good luck trying to stay in vtec range.

I don't use it too often. I keep wanting to pull upshifts and push downshifts.

Only at stop lights with the VSA turned off other than that it's alway on "D". But maybe once in a while I use it on the highway.

You know its interesting.....Im in SS in traffic and the city, for both acceleration and engine braking. But free and clear, I'm in D. I always thought it would be opposite, since I got tired of shifting in traffic in my Teg, but loved to shift when the road was wide open.

How does manual mode work?

Do you have to take your foot off the throttle when you "shift" like when driving a stick shift?

When in D just slip it sideways to the left. Then, when you push and release, it upshifts 1 gear, when you pull back and release, it downshifts one gear. No, you do not have to let your foot off the gas. Whatever gear you are in, when you come to a stop it will downshift into 1st gear for you. All other gear changes are initiated by you.

You don't have to mess with the gas pedal when shifting with SS, BUT...

It does help reduce shift times if you try and get the RPMs in the right range.
For example, if you give it some gas right before a down shift, the shift occurs much faster.
