how high can we rev for a period of time?

my friend told me that revving past 5000 rpms for any period of time is harmful to any car. is this true? i always rev my car to about 6000 because then i can really feel my car's power

You can rev up high. I do it every day. Just don't leave it there for a long time.

I'm close to 26k miles.

Well I wouldn't cruise on the highway in 2nd but there's nothing wrong with taking your car to redline.

At 6000 rpm, you are driving a 180 hp TSX. The VTEC just kicks in at 6,000 so I think the engineers expect you to use that last thousand rpm. You friend doesn't know much about engines. It entirely depends on what kind of engine you are talking about. Many engines are not designed to rev to 5,000. This one is designed to rev to 7,100. Many motorcycle engines to 10,000, F1 to 18,000 and so on.

Thumbs up 4-Cylinder Engine---HIGH REVING!!!

The 4 cylinder 2.4L engine is a high reving engine and reving it high for a while will only increase oil temperature and consume gas. Just one side note, the vibrations are not toooo good for engine mounts and so reving the car hight must be done cautiously and smoothly..............But don't worry the TSX 2.4L is just for that, fun high reving action.......

So that is wrong? Maybe I should try going 90 in 3rd then.

I love hitting the limits in the Type S. 2nd gear till it hits redline =

Yeah, you can get to redline but dwelling ther in the high gears will get half of your valvetrain clicking like crazy like mine does.
