How come guys 2.3 L (with Kit) Mitsubishi Evo can get 800 HP and we can not get 500 hp from 2.4 engine?

I'm no expert, but I think two things are key: high compression ratio (can be lowered) thus the air can only be further compressed to a certain level before u get detonation, and open deck engine (top of cylinder walls have a gap for better heat dissipation) which all Honda engines are, except for the H22 on the preludes I think.... thus it cannot handle as much psi's of compressed air

I'm sure it can be done if you had enough money, but whether it will be realiable and if u still consider it the original engine is another story... but even then I think the 800hp Evo's require a lot of internal modifications, the stock internals can probably handle ~450-500hp, but the engine block on the Evo's and certain model Eclipse's, 4G63 or whatever, are pretty strong blocks and are very responsive to boost.

Umm...because the Evo has a motor intended for use with a turbo while the TSX motor is designed to be NA. You could redo the internals of the TSX to allow for it to be used with a turbo, but it will be a lot of effort and money.

one will last 80,000 miles before major overhaul, the other will last 300,000.

you don't make 800hp and expect a lot of reliability. The Evo has a tried and true iron block I believe, it can take anything thrown at it, like the Supra. But, on those kinds of engines, every single part has been replaced in the engine. If you talking about a 2.3L Evo kit, it must be a stroker kit, and it probably has forged pistons, valves, retainers, etc. etc. At that point, its not even an "Evo" engine, merely an engine that fits in an Evo.

How come a 2.0 liter Mits N/A engine only makes 120 hp while a 2.0 liter S2000 engine makes 240?

How come Mits only gets 800 hp with a kit when Toyota made well over 1000 with the 2.1 Celica based engine in their Eagle GTP car way back on the 80's?

How come Honda's 1.5 liter turbo V-6 F-1 engine made a staggering 1200 (est) horsepwer in qualifying trim?
