How to check brake pads
What's the easiest way to check how much brake pad is left? I've been having constant squeals that come and go so I'd like to know if my pads are running low. I'm at 40k on OEM pads.

Easy method.... squeeling while driving and getting quiet under braking = time to change
Easy visual inspection... take wheel off, remove lower bolt on the caliper using an open end and socket, rotate the caliper up and look at how much pad is left.
Now, you can just look at the pad in the front without removing the caliper, but it will make it someone difficult to see the inboard pad. In either case, if you see a few millimeters of pad, its time.

I get sporadic squeals when I brake and not when I'm actually driving so I guess that means my pads are fine and the sound is not because pads have worn out?
