Horn vs. No Horn when arming security system

Click the remote once, the doors lock, I assume the system is armed.

Click the remote a second time, horn sounds. Pretty sure it's armed now.

What's with the second click / horn blast?

Nothing in the manual about a horn sounding.

Forgive me for being a newbie, but I've only had the car for two days.

I always get the horn... but that's because I have OCD when it comes to car alarms.

The horn sounds to let you know the system is locked and armed just in case you didn't get that impression the first time you hit the lock button.
In my experience, I hate the horn, so I usually look back to see the lights blink when I hit the lock button. But dammit, some days I miss the lights and/or don't hear the locking sound so I'm left uncertain and am forced to really press the button hard. "HONK!!!!" God I hate how loud it is.
In summary, I pretty much do everything in my power not to have to hear the horn.

The 2nd click with the beep is just to confirm that the alarm is armed. And as for it not being in the manual, it's in there, you might want to try next time, at least before you blame the manual.

I'm developing the same condition. If I don't hear something, then 2 minutes later as I'm getting on the train and I think 'did I lock the doors?' I have doubts, but somehow I remember it if a sound was associated. At home I try not to annoy the neighbors with the super-honk.

I really wish it was quieter or used a separate tone. Our passat has a nice gentle horn tone associated with it. On the other hand, it does have a range of about 6 inches, whereas I can arm the TSX from the top of the speedline platform (an el train) with a relatively clear line of sight - a distance of a least 100 feet

Seriously, it's not in there.

I'm game to be wrong, but I couldn't find it. Not on page 173.

I'm the same way. I always try to lock it soon enough that I can hear the locks. If not I watch until the lights go and sometimes I still hit it again for the horn

I hate that horn. On TL or TL-S it just beeped and it sounds a lot better than horn.

I like alarms that auto lock silently... in my s2000 the option exist to do that in the factory alarm (18 seconds after shutting the last door/trunk (after engine was shut off) it arms itself). in my gsr it auto locks but beeps... i have to manually press the silent alarm button to avoid a beep (late at night, for example).

Ditto here. I yearn for a classy little beep from the locking system (e.g. BMW) But at least it's not as loud as the alarm honk -- that sucker is deafening (especially if it goes off when you're not expecting it).

Think it's to make up for our insecure need to push the button twice, just to make sure??

If you just wait like fifteen seconds or so, you can press it again without the horn honking. You only get the honk for two presses in quick succession.
