Homelink programming

Has anyone successfully programmed their Homelink (the garage opener button above the rear view mirror)? I can't get mine to work. Maybe my garage opener isn't compatible...

Hello-

I don't have a TSX, but I've programmed Homelink in a car successfully. Maybe try resetting the transmitter--I think you hold the outer buttons at the same time and wait for the light to blink. (?) I think...

Stupid question to ask, but are you following the directions in your owner's manual? If all else fails, call the dealer

I've programmed mine and it works. If your garage door opener is rather new within the past few years make sure it's not one where it changes the code every time because then you won't be able to use the homelink.

That's not entirely true ajs887. I have the Genie system with code switching. You do the same process with normal garage door openers, but then there are additional steps that require you to do some stuff with the opener itself. The manual has the exact steps right after the normal ones.

However there are some older openers that won't work. You can PM if you still have trouble.

Be sure and use a full size opener and not the key fob opener. Also a strong battery will help. I had to call Genie to get the proper programming sequence for the Homelink. It took me a few times to get it right.

directions w/o rolling code:
1. press and hold buttons 1 and 3 (two outside buttons) for 20 seconds. it'll blink rapidly after 20 seconds. this clears previous codes installed on the homelink.
2. have your remote on hand and press and hold the remote button and the homelink button at the same time. after holding for a few seconds, the red light of homelink should blink differently. let go of both buttons. repeat if necessary.
3. test homelink buttons... if it works, you're set. if it doesn't, you have a rolling code.

directions w/ rolling code:
1. do all the steps in "directions w/o rolling code" first. the code must be registered into homelink first.
2. have someone help you. have one person stand on a ladder under the garage door motor and the other person sits in the car.
3. the person under the garage door motor presses a red button that sends out signals (all garage door motors are different... i'm assuming the button is red). you have 30 seconds after the person pushes the red button.
4. the person in the car presses and holds the homelink button that refers to that garage door. the red light should stay on w/o flashing and hold for a few seconds until it flashes. once it flashes, it should be programed to work.

Yup, I have a rolling-code Genie opener, so I needed to consult the Genie manual and press a button on the motor unit. It actually took several tries and about 1/2 hour before I was up and running. Just read the TSX and/or garage door manual carefully and you'll be good to go. Homelink is great, and I have better range than with my old remote -- plus, no more batteries.

When I first got the car, I had an old (around 12 years) Sears unit and the programming was straight forward. I just replaced this with a newer Sears rolling code unit and followed the instructions. The box stated it was homelink compatible. Homelink. You may want to take a look at their website:

Exactly. If you have a rolling code garage door opener, this is a 2-person operation. I got this info from a friend after spending about a half hour vainly trying to program my Accord's HomeLink by myself. It wasn't in the owner's manual or anywhere else to be found.

Hmmm, I don't mean to ask a stupid question. But does this work for gates too? I have a gate at the entrance to the complex I've never been able to program with the Homelink and just assumed it wouldn't work. Let me try and clear it and start over.

I havent been able to get my homelink to work either. I'm in the process of trying to work it out with the maker of my garage door receiver, and homelink. Its a very old unit..so I may not get it to work.

By the way..homelink definately works with gates, as well as many other wireless devices. If you want to get really creative you could probably rig up a wireless receiver and get homelink to do just about anything.

When I get home I want it to start up the hot-tub, turn on the deck speakers and pour me a rye and seven

YOU know what..you could actually do all that, although you would need to rig up some kind of robotics to pour the drink

The salesman at the dealership programed my homelink buttons. After the working for the first time, the button did not work. So I just reprogrammed it myself and now it works great. I haven't had a problem in 1 month.

Thanks for all the replies and especially the link to Homelink's site. Guess my garage opener is not compatible (too old, wrong brand, uses antennae not infrared, etc.). If anyone else is in the same boat, Homelink sells a Universal Converter for about $100, but for me, it's cheaper to keep my mini remote in the non-ashtray. Maybe I'll save the Homelink buttons for turning on the TV...
