Hit from Behind

Got hit from behind this morning I was stopped at a red and some young kid in a late model Malibu smacked me. I didn't see him coming so I had no idea how fast he was going or if he was just stopped and rolled. I'd guess over 5km/h.

The good news is there's no damage. There's a small mark, not a scratch just a scuff. Should buff right out. Thank god for 8km/h bumbpers.

I'm fine thanks.

The kid was being very, very aplogetic. He was no more than 18 so I didn't think it was worth notifying isurance.

I've been thinking about writing a book, "How to Meet Attractive Young Women Half a Mile From the GO Train Station", and subtitled "Repaint Your Car One Corner at a Time".

My wife and I have been hit 7 times in the past 12 months, and heard everything from, "My foot slipped off the brake...My foot slipped off the clutch...I didn't think you were going to stop for that STOP sign..." With one exception, each time our car was stopped, or parked; once I heard the car behind me lock-up its tires, so I got off the brake and nailed the gas (I still needed a new bumper, but felt lucky? smart? happy to be uninjured?). Fortunately, three of these hits were in rental cars, while our car was in the shop being fixed. None of these has cost me anything, and even the damage to one of the rental cars was covered with no trouble by my Royal Bank Visa Platinum card, whereas I would have been out-of-pocekt $700 if I had come back to find my car attacked in a parking lot.

Funny, but when I opened this thread I wondered if you were from Toronto. So, should I feel safe buying a TSX, or perhaps a Hummer? Someone else suggested that maybe I should drive faster.

Sorry to hear fellow Canadians being hit so many times! Must be the part of GTA you are from! IF you are East of Toronto or in North York I can only count the number of bad drivers there. I'm in the west GTA. Anyways, I hope these people, short of calling them morons, stop ramming into fellow ACura/Honda folks.

3rd time being hit in almost 13 years of driving.

7 times in 12 months is absolutely crazy.

Dom, You might want to remove the bumper cover to check for damage to the foam core (I think the TSX is still foam). This is an important part of your energy absorbing structure. It might be compromised for a future (knock on wood) rear impact.

Sux to hear. Not a good day today, bad news in general in here.

Get the foam checked. If it's like helmets, you need to replace it as a means of preention.

j/k, glad you're okay...

some fat chick slammed into me in traffic about 2 months ago. i saw here panicking in my rearview mirror as i was stopped and i was like WTF??

after she hit me (about 5-10 mph, i'd guess) she said her flip-flop got stuck under the gas pedal and she couldn't get to the brake in time...

luckily she had such a shitty car that it nose dived under the extreme braking and damage was more to the underside of my bumper (96 civic). not even visible, really....

I got rear-ended at a stop sign last night. The guy who hit me must not have been going very fast, but it did leave two small gouges in the rear bumper, near the bottom. It looks like they go all the way through, so I don't know if it will be possible to touch it up with paint. They're not too noticeable, since they're at the bottom of the bumper, but I think it would be better to get it fixed. I got his name, phone number, and license plate number.

Interesting revival consdering what I found on my rear bumper 2 days ago. Car was really dirty so I noticed 4 straight marks along the driver's side corner of the rear bumper. Upon further inspection also notice white paint transfer. There's a very small area where the paint was dug out but otherwise it should hopefully buff out. Each mark is about 10 inches long.

After looking at it for a a few minutes I realized the only car that could have done it was a late model Pontiac Grand Am with those ghey rib mouldings on the front a rear bumpers. Sure enough a lady where I work drives such a car.

The bumper also popped out ever so slightly but I just popped it back in and it seemed to click right in

Park next to her and leave a note saying, "I know it was you." See what she does.

A co-worker also thinks she hit his car as well. All four corners of her bumpers are strached so clearly she has no idea how to drive.

We're thinking of bringing it up at lunch one day. Start of the conversation by discussing how hard it is to see when your reversing.

So you obviously KNOW the woman then. Yeah, I don't think I'd take the chance of parking next to her again.

That's a great way to call her out, indirectly make fun of her. Make sure you mention, "it was probably some woman driver" (not to offend other women drivers, but just to call her out).

Well, I talked to the guy who rear-ended me on the phone. He says that he'd prefer not to go through his insurance company, but rather to just pay me out of pocket for the cost of repairs to my rear bumper. I guess that's fine with me. I figure that if I have any trouble getting him to cover it, I could always go the insurance route as a back-up. Now I just need to find a body shop to get an estimate.

just becareful, i have had a bad experience when someone wanted to go through their insurance and wound up not paying and skipping town. If i were you I would file a police report no matter what. that way have some recourse should something go wrong.

I smell a new TSX commercial to tie in with the new TL one where everyone is saying "Call.." "Dial.." "XM.." "FM.." "Passenger temp.."

It will show men and women drivers of the TSX in parking lots, railroad tracks, red lights and other intersections - cut to outside where they show, in rapid motion, a bunch of <5mph impacts on each of them from behind. Have both inside the car and outside the car shots. "The Acura TSX.. 5mph bumpers standard."

That's just f'n funny.

Here's my contribution: Tonight I went out to do my nightly snowblowing (alright, I admit it's been only two nights, in three days). As I pulled the snowblower backward past the car out of the garage, it just barely touched the almost empty lightweight steel shelf unit I'd left against the garage wall, next to the car, because I had no place else for it. Just barely knicked it. Nothing more than a little air kiss, really...

Imagine my surprise when I looked up to see that shelf unit, apparently having rocked back against the wall and then forward again, falling just barely faster toward my '06 PWP than I could catch it, as it all turned out.

And a split-second late is as good as forever.

The brief impact left a little, scarcely perceptible, neat little vertical crease on the right rear quarter-panel -- only above the built-in horizontal crease -- about three inches forward of the back end.

I'm thinking of doing it again to the right side, and calling it a mod.

Meanwhile, read your horoscope and watch your TSX's ass... it seems to be in danger these days...
