Hey guys, whats it with AUDI and BMW.

I have a question for all you about AUDI and BMW. One of my friends has a A4 3.0 and my other friend has a 325i. They both loathe each others cars even though they are almost the same with a few exceptions. They are about equally equiped on the enterior. The only real difference is that the audi has more power and has quattro. The audi guy thinks that the BMW guy only got his car because he cared about prestige. The BMW guy thinks the audi guy paid to much for his car and he says quattro wont save you around every corner... Its constant madness. I have noticed that this isnt uncommon. Audi Drivers and BMW drivers simply dont agree on anything. Why is this?

I think it's because their cars are in the same class and so they have to come up with something to try to prove that their car is better.

Personally, I'm an Audi guy. But thats because I drove a turbo Jetta for a couple of years. I think that VW/Audi is still one of the most innovative car company out there. They've always been like that. Even VW is pushing its traditional limits with the Toureg and Phaeton. I still like Bimmers a lot, but dont need the headache that comes with all the stares and weirdness from other drivers. But guys like these are the types that perpetuate the snooty-ness that others think high end car owners have.

Luckily, Acura owners dont have to worry about that. Ha Ha.

They bought their cars for other people's opinion and can't stand competition?

I like my car the way it is. There are better, cheaper, faster, whatever....I like mine.

What stereotype are you placing on someone who owns both an Acura and a BMW?
The truth is that there are all types of people that own BMW's and Audi's just like there are all types of people that own Acura's. That stereotype is an old one that won't die. The fact is that almost anyone "can" own a BMW, MB, etc... if they really want one. If you have a half ass job and want to spend the majority of your income on a car, then you can have a BMW. It might not be the smartest thing to do, but there are hundreds of thousands of people doing it in every state. Always have been, always will be...

I actually like cloth! It's a shame they took it off as a standard feature on the 320i. It's warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and really grips well in the corners. Plus it wears better than leather.

Well, we have both

I have a 2002 A4 quattro the other half has a 2003 745i. I call my Audi "The Thinking Man's BMW", he doesnt laugh. I think Audi and Acura have a lot in common, and I am uncommonly close to the Acura brand (for reasons I can't go in to)

Your name is Rick, you have an A4. Your "other half" has a 745i. The part that I don't get is that you said "HE" doesn't laugh after you call your A4 "the thinking man's BMW". That would make you both male?

It's just a rivalry thing. They have competing (rival) products so they're going to dislike each other's cars. Just look at your favorite sports team rivalies. Most healthy rivalries are done tongue-in-cheek...but some people take it to extremes.

I don't care about the gay part -- this is the part that I wanna know about!

Am I the only one who, when someone says something like "for reasons I can't go into," that's the most interesting part?

Why do I ask questions to which I know Larchmont will respond with an answer to

I definently understand that part, and that's why I left it out the first time I quoted him.

Here's where it gets confusing for me.

he wrote "Mike" and then everything else in brackets

who's the guy that responded to "that thread about a month ago"? and who's Mike?

yes, I am gay, and to answer Larchmont, I have a position that gives me advanced knowledge of AHM products, so it is better that people don't hassle me for future product info, but I do know what I am talking about. Does that make sense (typing awfully tired here)

This whole thread has gone OT completely.

I finished reading all the posts in this thread. I then proceeded to click the "Back" button, then clicked on "Hey guys, whats it with AUDI and BMW." just to see what is in the thread. I read the first post, and I told myself that I just read this and realized that this thread has gone OT.

A "thinking wo/man" would realize that even though the BMW is more expensive at purchase than an Audi, because of higher resale, it's cheaper in the long run. I wanted a convertible to replace my off-lease TL-S. An Audi 1.8T with a sticker of $43K was $100 more a month than a 325cic with a sticker of $46K. Guess which car I bought.

Same thing happened to me when I was comparing the A4 1.8T Quattro to the BMW 325xi. And guess which one I bought as well... Audi's don't lease very well if you compare the price of the vehicle and the monthly payments against BMW.

The whole thinking comment was a tongue in cheak jab, illustrating that a portion of BMW drivers buy solely and blindly based on brand and that that happend less so with Audi. Audi has done a lot to increase the residuals on their cars lately, but residuals are a touchy thing around our house, the 745i isnt worth anything!

LOL!
Hey, I used to own a Audi, I'm offended!!

As for BMW=snoby owners, I would have to say most of the 3-series owners don't buy for performance, but rather the image. Sorry, B-D, but that's what I usually see with people around me that buy BMWs. The 5 series owners are a bit more concious of what they are buying, but the 3 series ownership is definitely watered down. I know at least 10 BMW 3 series owners, and of them, only 3 know that their cars are RWD. Most don't even know that there is engine differences between each other's cars, and they hardly recognize the driving dynamics between their car and others (ie, I had a friend that told me "my dad's Accord handles much better than my BMW".)

Sorry, B-D, there are idiot BMW owners who don't know the car's true heritage.

Junkster, whose two friends out of three that did know that their car was RWD were M3 owners.

Ignorant or not, there are some that buy BMW's for the sake that it's a BMW/prestige name. Are you telling me that ALL BMW buyers buy them because of the performance of the car? Come on, B-D, that comment would sound 'ignorant'. I'm in concurance with the statement that 10~30% of luxury/performance car owners buy their cars due to marque, namesake, prestige. That also includes those idiots that buy the RL.

I would write more, but I'm leaving for home for holidays now.

Happy Holidays every1!

B-D, I see your point, that some of my friends are 'ignorant' (one owns a 330 and a Cavalier and can't tell the difference in ride quality, so... yea, ignorant, but still a BMW owner/buyer.

Junkster, who wants a new PC for Christmas.

Just like there are TSX owners that think they have 100% leather upholstery and that thier 200hp is obviously faster than any vehicle with less than 200hp? Ignorance is world-wide, there are just as many dumb Acura owners as there are dumb BMW, MB & Lexus owners.
People buy for different reasons, stereotyping everyone for thier choices would be impossible.
