Help with oil change schedule...
My '06 TSX is 3 weeks old and have 1,000 miles (this includes one 750 mile round trip and 14 days of driving under 5 miles per trip). My oil life now reads 80%, so I figure at this rate the first oili change will be at 5,000. Is this correct? I ask because I recall my dealer telling me I don't need an oil change until 10,000.
I checked the maintenance faq and noticed the difference between "normal" driving (10,000 oil change) and "severe" (5,000 oil change). Problem is: I don't know whether this initial driving spurt qualifies as "severe" (one criteria met: trips less than 5 miles) or "normal" (375 miles driven out of town each way = 750 miles).
I realy don't care about the timing or mileage between changes, for I can do the change whenever the service message suggests. The only concern I have is whether my car is burning oil excessively...

Watch for those short trips, especially in cold weather. There can be enough moisture build up in the crankcase to ruin the oil, which might require you to change it out earlier.
I was driving approx. 3 miles to my coworker's house and we did ride sharing to work. After one week of such short trips, there was enough moisture build up to form "latte" under the oil cap.
