The heat in my car smells like fart!

Hey guys, since it's been cold here in Chicago i've been turning on my heat. and EVERYTIME it smells like fart after...2mins of use? its unbearable! I've already changed my cabin air filter when i first noticed this and that was more than 2 weeks ago. problem still here.

specs: 05 tsx, only mod is injen intake(it does have a dirty filter) and I do love to rev/redline it often when I drive.

any help is much appreciated. thanks.

it is all of your own farts accumulated in the seat that gets out when heat loosens up the foam material where your fart is trapped !
(I am not sure actually if I am kidding or serious about this....but i am sure there is some truth to it! )

You may have some animal that crawled in there and died. It doesn't happen often, but it can. Small rodents or birds may have taken shelter in your vehicle during a rain storm or similar unpleasant weather. My uncle had a mouse die in his vent and had a hell of a time finding it and getting the smell out. He had to take apart the whole dash and AC system. Hopefully you won't have to go through all that trouble.
Got an extended warranty?

Sounds like you got something in your system, check all the vent openings, especially the ones at your feet for vermin. if there is nothing, check your cabin filter like tony4311 mentioned. If it's more like mildew smelling, spray some diluted bleach solution into the vents, and also at the outside vent under the windshield. Also, check to see if you have bits of road kill under your car. if you think you ran over a skunk and it's leaving a smell, you should spray your undercarriage with water.

Have any 'enemies' out there? An egg in the vents will do that...something I've been tempted to do once or twice (when I'm feeling reeeally mature).

I'm not sure ext. warranty covers mouse in a/c vents. I am sure ext. warranty does not cover farts.

I used to get a horse maneur smell from the heat.

It could be fungus or some type of growth that results from the moisture. After drives on which you used heat, try turning the heat/AC off and just run the fan for a few minutes before exiting the car. If it is this type of growth, then this should dry up excess moisture and prevent it. The heat or AC will not dry the moisture out.

Good Luck
