For some reason I have convinced myself that the front portion (to include the sides) is made of leather and the rear portion is "leatherette". Input?

 

Agreed. I have read a number of posts that state that only the perforated material is leather. I disagree through. I think that there is a lot of un-perforated leather. You can tell by comparing material from the front versus the sides, etcetera. The leatherette grain differs from the leather grain.
