Has anyone upgrade their Navi DVD for the TSX?

I have an 04 TSX, and was just wondering what the new DVD does. They just released a new one for 09.

Does a new DVD change the GUI at all, or just the map? Do we get the new GUI they have in the 06-08 models? I noticed that the 06-08 TSX's have a different color shade on the screen. the on-screen menus are silver instead of beige colored.

Also, does it add any extra options to the info panel? I see there are a few empty spots in the INFO screen.

06-08 navi has different hardware as well as a different navi disk (e.g., orange dvd versus white dvd). The navi dvd is usually just updated maps (except for the 04/05 navi, I hear they get fewer updates than 06-08).

There was an update for the 06-08 that changes the GUI a little (the radio screen is changed a little). My 06 has the original dvd still, so I have the original screen (the GUI change was in the update that came right after I got my car, I believe).

Are you sure abou that GUI change? I have an 06, and i recently updated to the 2008 nav dvd (I think it's 4.6 or something, but not the 4.7 2009 version). I didn't notice any changes to the radio screen, but the navigation maps have been updated to show one way streets when you're zoomed in all the way on the map screen. That's kind of nice. Maybe I didn't load the new dvd properly, but I'm pretty sure it's all automatic when you put in the new sic. So the gui change for the radio screen may be subtle and I don't see it.

how much does the 2009 disc cost? i've been considering doing this, since there has been a ton of construction in NJ/NY metro area in the past 3-4 years, and I have the 2006 TSX.

I successfully made a backup of mine using clonecd. Takes a while though. All you need is a blank dual layer disc.

and also, what are those extra spots in the info screen for? is it possible to add features, besides the basic calendar, trip computer and voice command help?

Well, whoever posted a pic of their screen claimed they had an 06 and specifically mentioned the change. I looked at my screen and noticed that there was a difference. I just can't remember what the difference was, but I do remember at the time that I thought it would be a nice change to look forward to if I were to upgrade the dvd.

looks to also be for the 2005. when will they do that for the 2006? i could buy a portable unit for $180 at this point that can update periodically. this disc is just not at the sweet spot of my price desire. lol

I went for the upgrade because of that price on my 2005, still they butt rape you on taxes and shipping and so called "handling"...whatever. Came out to be close to the original price of $185.

Google's not working. Maybe you should take some pictures of each screen so that we can add it to our library of knowledge?

sorry guys but you cannot copy the DVD v. 4.71. Alpine has put in some sort of code that wont let your DVD unit recognize the disc. Also, there's not that much update in the mapping compared to the v 4.63, which is by the way 'burnable'. If you want to get a new disc might as well buy it from Honda.com. Do not buy a copied disc from Ebay or Craigslist. I guarantee you it will not work. You will get scammed.

yes! I burned a copy of the v 4.63 and it worked perfectly. Yet, when I tried doing the same thing with the new disc v 4.71, it didn't work. Even though when I tried putting the burned disc in the computer and check what's on the disc. Yes, every file was on the disc but the car DVD nav unit wouldn't read it. So, Alpine must have done something to the disc or put in a hidden file to prevent it from being copied. I used the same dual layer 8.5 gb DVD to burn the disc on each version. I have never had any problem burning any copy of the nav disc before until now. At least for the time being.

cybereclipse, can you post a pic of each tab of the audio screen? I believe I saw the difference there somewhere. That's an interesting sort of red...I should try that color.

An 04 navi system wont read a white disc, he can only go up to 3.80 orange disc, and it wont change the gui to yours.

Unless it has changed, Acura only updates the disk once a year in the fall around Oct. I have an 06 with the original disk and I'm going to wait until then to purchase the lastest navi disk.

I dont know guys. I have a 2005 TSX with Navi. I prefer the blue background specially in the radio screen.

Is there a way to change background colors on the new disc or is it always a grey background?

Another question:

Once you change to new disc, if you don't like it, can you go back to old disc or is the change permanent?

I don't know about the 2004/2005 navi system, but for the 2006+ navi, we can change the colors. They persist until we decide to change them again.

I believe you have to take it to the dealership and have them reset the navi system (e.g., downgrade the firmware). You can then put in your old disc.

Oh well. Btw guys. You will be unable to burn any of the navigation discs after 4.63. Alpine has put in disc detection software so that the player will reject a dvd-r or +r. It has to be the booktype that comes on commercially pressed dvd's that you buy in the store. Even if you change the booktype in your dvd burning software, the system still won't load the dvd.

I was checking on the NAVTEQ site for the 3.90 disc.. I have a 2004 TSX, but apparently the previous owner bought it in 2003 according to the papers in my owners manual? So mine was manufactured in 2003. Why does Acura say compatible with those manufactured in 2004? its the same thing right?

Can someone verify that the orange 3.90 update disc will update the GUI? I would be down to spend the $150 if I get the new GUI, the old one is fugly.
