GPS for non-nav TSX
If you have a tsx without the navigation package and want a custom look, check out the Magellan 1700. The 7" wide screen is the biggest portable gps unit available, and the great part is that if fits like a glove in the space in front of the storage compartment below the AC controls. With the storage door closed, use velcro tape to secure the gps unit in place. For a power source I got an auxiliary 12 volt plug from radio shack and tapped into the cigarette lighter wires in the not an ashtray and it's all hidden behind the console. (obviously you have to remove the storage compartment, not an ashtray, and shifter console cover to accomplish this, but that is easy) You have to use the power cable supplied with the gps because it steps the voltage down to 5 volts, so that is the reason for using the additional aux 12 volt plug hidden behind the console.
The end result is a gps unit that looks great, almost like it came with the car, not some afterthought stuck to the windshield with a suction cup. It doesn't have to be in the windshield to get a strong signal, I get a full signal. The best part of all is I paid $219. I got it from Sixth Ave Electronics here in NY, but I've seen it on Amazon and Best Buy.

Additional note. I used velcro tape in the middle at the top and the bottom. At the bottom I also used about 3 strips of that 3m foam double stick tape under the velcro attached to the gps in order to angle the gps unit up slightly and give clearance so the the not an ashtray door can open. You know how you have to push the door to open, well, the top of the door will contact the back of the gps unit. The not an ashtray door doesn't fully open, but it opens enough for a change dish, but not enough to use the power outlet. But since I used velcro, I can just take the gps unit out if I need to. All that is left is the 2 soft velcro strips, but I keep my unit in so that's not a problem for me. I'm just putting this out for info, but the beauty of custom work is that you can come up with your own idea.

I have the exact same GPS in my CR-V. I also mounted it lower on the dash. No windshield or top of dash mount. Love the size. Makes it easier to view. It's a nice unit to. Very user friendly. Great job, looks OEM.
