Got embarassed last night by a 525

This isn't a race, that's why i'm posting it here instead of the racing section.

Up ahead i saw that two lanes merged into one. There was one last traffic light and then maybe half a mile before the lanes merged. I was the first one on the right side of the lanes and when i looked to my left, there was an older lady driving a 5 series. I couldn't tel which one it was from the side. I figured she woudln't step on it or anything when the light turned green. I looked behind her and there was 4-5 cars behind her. So i'd prefer to be at the front of the pack.

I put the car in SS mode, the light turns green and i have her all the way through 4500 RPM's in 1st gear. When i say i have her, i didn't mean passing her either. I meant i was able to keep up. Then as i shifted into second, she blows by me. When i see the badge on her car, it's a 525

Man... that was embarassing. She wasn't even trying. LOL

If you want to beat people you have to at least hit 6k =) After 3k is when it really starts to pull, at least that's how I feel. And of course above 6k the VTEC kicks in and it really pulls.
You just have to push it harder

Don't look at the car, lookit the driver. I find there are ninnies driving crap-cans who push them beyond the engineers dreams, and bury many of us in black smelly smoke. I say ... let 'em burn gas and ruin their car.

You can tell, sometimes, about the driver. Sounds like this "lady" was a cougar.

if you really wanted to get ahead of the pack, you should've gunned it at the get-go. get to at least 6000rpm. you are only starting to move at 4500rpm. btw, if i see a car like that next to me, regardless of who's driving, i don't bother to gun it - the car easily could've been a 540 and could've totally schooled you.

some dude in an late 90's altima tried that on me on the freeway once. it was on an uphill stretch - i was in 3rd gear most of the way, pushing about 90mph, car was stable as a rock. the altima on the other hand, that thing was bouncing and moving and it was just not safe to follow behind him. then the boy got scared i guess as we went over the mountain and must've went about 45mph downhill. say what ya'll want about the stock suspension, the tsx was very planted, on oem tires no less!

No, it was because he shifted into 2nd at 4500rpm. Since he bothered to use SS, he should have shifted at 7000rpm instead. Otherwise, just leave it at D!

Welcome to driving a Honda. If you want the power, keep the car above 5500rpm at all costs.

I think i mis-phrased it into something misleading.
I meant to say i was able to keep up until 4500 rpm's. Meaning when my tach hit 4500 rpms, that's when i saw her pass me. I didn't shift until close to redline.
Maybe when i got to 4500 rpm's is when her car shifted into 2nd?

Ahh, I see. Well, welcome to the world of 6-cyl. Where you don't have to wait to hit 5000rpm.

True, but if you're going for gas mileage you aren't looking for power. Save insane volumetric efficiency, usually the two are inversely proportional - more power, less mpg; less power, more mpg.

I would've thought you would've been sluggish in the beginning and then take her afterwards, especially in SS. I mess with x25 bimmers often (there are a ton on the road) and the TSX should be good enough to keep up, depending on the driver of the BMW. Most x25 drivers don't know a lick about cars. The x35- drivers are a more intelligent lot.

lol, well she kind of just pulled ahead and so i stopped trying because it's not enough to just beat her. I would have had to be a cars lengths ahead of her in order to pull in front. It wouldn't have been safe at that distance on a public road.

And more importantly, don't put your 5AT up against anything that is a car. Stick to racing old Chrysler minivans.

Assuming she was in the 'thru lane'–and it takes something from you to bite your lip and backdown. I've bit my lip so often; I'm surprised I haven't bled to death.

I had somebody in a Yaris try and pull ahead of me the other night while I was in the thru lane. Didn't even have to take it out of drive. I think the hamster in the Yaris pulled a muscle, but I never topped 4k.
