Gas MPG at lower speeds

Well, today, i was finally patient enough to drive constant at about 60-65mph.

I was 200 miles deep into my tank, so about half a tank, and was averaging about 25.0 mpg.

well i went on a 40 mile trip, and the first 20 of the trip i drove 70ish the entire time, and ended up maintaining the 25.0 MPG.

On the way home, i set cruise control at about 62mph, just to see what she could do. well, the results, as expected, were fantastic. i increased the avg mpg to 25.9 by the time i got home. this car really is great on gas, i just wish i felt normal driving 65mph!

i must have been averaging about 35mpg on the way home, i wish i set the tripometer back. but i'll try it again this afternoon, and see if i can get her up to 27.0!

brady, I just took my first road trip in my TSX on Friday / Saturday, doing a 220mile jaunt back and forth. I filled the tank before each trip and reset the computer to check out mileage.

On the way there, I used SS the whole way and drove rather spirited, 90+ up and over mountains. (radar detector handy). Got 26mpg.

On the way back, I cruise controlled most the way at ~ 75, and tried for efficiency, and got 29.9 mpg with a computed average speed of 61! Almost 30mpg on a high speed cruise, good enough for me.

that's solely highway miles at 75mph right?

Not saying it's not good, but it's just never going to happen for me.

I want my average in the north jersey area to fall around 26/27 and i'll be happy.

But that's pretty good at 75!

I'll be making an all interstate 40 trip in 2 weeks so I can't wait to see what I'm going to get. Around town I'm getting around 20MPG which IMO, sucks.

SF to LA and back - 510 Miles on 1 tank, 34.1MPG averaging 82Mph Flat highways and a little drafting behind big trucks and you'd be surprised how fast you can go and still have great mileage. Could have gone 540 miles so said the trip computer but I didn't want to chance it.

Ive been kinda disappointed for city mpg. I live in pennsylvania-kinda hilly...and the trip computer says im only getting 16.3 mpg. I was expecting atleast 18-20. I havnt been driving agressively, so i dont understand why the mpg is so low

Stop and Go around PGH is horrible for any car, the environment and the hills are all factors lilballa. Pittsburgh isn't kinda hilly, its extremely hilly. And the roads are bad and the lights aren't timed. I spent 5 years up there so I'm very familiar with it.

GO STEELERS.

Yeah I just left the Burgh 8 months ago. Lived there for 2 years (Grad school). Got the worst mileage there than anywhere else I've ever driven.

*cough*

I made a trip up to Wisconsin Dells about a month ago and took my TSX (It had just over 1000 miles on it at this point), I drove about 85 the whole way up and averaged about 26.5mpg, than on the way back I dropped back to about 65 the whole way (no traffic on the way back at all) and I got 34.7mpg. I'm very impressed with this car's milage. Even when I'm driving around town and keep the RPMs up I still get great milage. Could it be a little more powerful? Absolutely. However, I'm coming from a 1994 Dodge Caravan (which sucked on milage compared to the TSX) and a Pontiac Vibe (good milage, almost 40mpg on the highway). The TSX handles like a dream compared to those vehicles, not to mention it feels so much faster.

I got 24.8 mpg on my first full tank of gas. This is still during the break in period so no aggressive driving, about 50/50 city/hwy driving.

If you don't have a Nav system or a 2006, you don't have a trip computer that will tell you that. If you do have a Nav, it's in the trip computer (hit "Info," than select "Trip Computer" from the screen. If you have a 2006 you can view this info in your multi function display in your gauge cluster.

If you don't have the Nav or a 2006, you're kind of out of luck and you have to estimate based on miles traveled per tank.

I'm 200 miles into my '06 and it's been about 70/30, city vs. highway respectively and I'm at 20.3MPG according to my computer. I've been babying it since I'm in the middle of my break in. This just seems really low.

Hmm...with about 85/15 city highway split, I'm averaging around 24 mpg according to the trip computer, but my actual is closer to 22.5 mpg. In my 04, when I took several trips up to western Mass, I easily made 30+ mpg traveling at an average speed of 70mph all the way up and down the 95.

On a trip to MidOhio I got 29.41mpg and on a trip, loaded down to VA, I got 28.24mpg.

I average 24-25mpg with a 70/30 mix of highway/city.

I feel the same way. In my first three fill ups I can barely get 200 miles out of a tank. Although I do 98% (LA) city driving, but I have babied it trying to be good during the break in period. I'm hoping with some more miles and highway driving it improve.

It will. I don't think I saw decent mileage until 10-15k miles.

I rolled over 1000 miles this past Saturday on my '06. I averaged 29.8 MPG through the first 1000 miles. I was pretty satisfied with that.

Hmm...Interesting. Do you think the added power to the 06 has lead to worse gas mileage, or do you think it's just because your car might not be fully broken in?

I'm pretty sure its the "not broken in" part.

That's a good question. I'm hoping it improves. I doubt the small HP gain in the 06 makes a difference.
