It doesn't even affect our pockets significantly.
By the recent headlines you wouldn't think so.

What I find idiotic are the people that bought a gas guzzling vehicle and then complain when it gets more expensive to fill it. Where were their brains when the bought the thing in the first place?

OUR pockets meaning us, TSX'ers.

Seriously, well, of course there will be exceptions to those that drive over 30k a year (sauceman), but in most cases, it won't.

It always blows my mind when people that drive those monsters complain about fuel economy. Check out this quote from the NY Times about the H2:

The auto industry's market research generally ranks fuel economy far down on buyers' priority list, but it seems to have registered after customers bought their vehicles, as the level of fuel consumption complaints doubled.

That did not make for an auspicious debut for the Hummer in the survey, though the brand's new H2 sport utility has certainly sold well. Even though H2 starts just under $50,000, it is the only G.M. vehicle that sells well without huge incentives. But the jaws of some buyers apparently dropped when they filled their 32-gallon gas tanks. They ranked Hummer in last place among 36 brands, reporting 225 problems per 100 Hummers over all, compared with an industry average of 133.

"With the H2, it leaves you scratching your head," said John Tews, a spokesman for J. D. Power. "What were they expecting?"

I think you should check your source. That sounds like a Bush ad to me, touting that Kerry (and environmentalists) supported a big tax hike on gas a while ago before the prices exploded.

Gas prices for premium just went over $2 for the first time here, and they've risen $0.20/gallon in the past two weeks

I remember the good ol' days of <$1/gallon for regular just 6 or so years ago (lowest I saw was $0.79/gallon!). But I have to say that even though prices have nearly doubled in that time period, my driving patterns have never really changed.

Oh sure, tax the hell out of gas when it's cheap but now that it's political suicide to do so it's not such a good idea. Politically convenient taxation - what a briliant idea!!

I am no gas expert, but I wish I could find 91 octane in the Chicago area, everytime I fill up up its 87, 89 or 93. I am assuming it must be some sort of emissions thing, but am curious as to why no 91 in Chicago?

Either way, filled up with 93 each time so far, really doesnt equate to that much more when it comes down to it.

Wow.
Ya'll are paying too much for gas.
In Texas, I'm paying about $1.90 for 89 octane at either Shell or Exxon/Mobil.

Of course we're paying too much for gas. It's all the fault of Texas for producint GW.

Seriously, though, I don't mind paying the higher price for gas if something good actually come out of it (e.g. reduction in the number of extraneous SUVs on the road).

Well the TSX engine is very similar to the engine in the insight/US accord. In which it is tuned for 87 octane it makes 160hp and 161 lb-ft of torque.

The TSX's engine is enginered to get more HP though using Premium octane gas and advanced spark timing taking advantage of premium gas's slower ignition rate.

Therefore if you want your engine to perform at factory specs and perform well, you are an idiot if you DONT put premium in your car.

(V4, hahah that was funny.. V4 ROTF)

You think you've got it bad for gas prices?

Here's some math for my fellow U.S. TSX-ers:

1 US Gallon = 3.8 Canadian Litres
Cost/Litre (Premium 91 Octane) = $1.00.9/L CDN
$1.009 CDN = $0.723 US

Therefore:

In Canada, Premium 91 Octane fuel is $2.75 US per gallon

I know that in some Canadian cities (Vancouver TSX-ers back me up on this) the price of REGULAR gas is close to $1/litre. That means that Premium is more than like $1.10/litre which would mean that (using similar conversions) people on the west coast of Canada are paying over $3.00 US/gallon!!!

In Nova Scotia (one of our Eastern Provinces), they are proposing a law that would require the oil companies to give 2 full business days notice before raising the price of gas. Sounds like a good idea to me.
