Not to be flippant about this, but: Depending on the car and the conditions, I don't think 100 mph is necessarily unduly risky.

I'm sure you've all heard this a million times, and sometimes it's just an excuse, but I agree with it: When it comes to safety, often too much emphasis is put on "speed" and not nearly enough emphasis on other aspects of driving. I drive extremely carefully, exceedingly carefully -- I tell you, I'm ridiculous about it. And I realize that very often, high-speed driving is dangerous, and crazy. But sometimes it's not. And you still might get a ticket for it -- a real, real bad one.

The thing is -- speed is easier to measure.

I never realized that larch. Thanks-

Going 100 is kind of reckless though. Most 17 year olds don't realize how fast that is. By the time you react to something in the road going 100 miles per hour, you've already traveled almost 400 feet! If you don't get it, imagine going 15 miles per hour and a deer steps on the road. By the time you react, you've gone 10-15 feet.

And I'm 16 and I realize this crap. It's not that hard.

Actually we shouldn't argue much in favor of 100 mph. Jackspat for sure is at least mostly right -- and on something like this, being mostly right is more than enough.

But I do wish they did more about the other, worse kinds of dangerous driving.

I got a ticket for 91 in a 70 zone a few weeks back. I'll skip the rant about quotas, revenue-generation, and how there are more pressing issues.

One thing, though: in the "Notes" part of the ticket, the cop wrote that I had a radar detector. I'm pretty sure they're legal in FL so why write it down?

I suspect this won't help in court. It doesn't help my jaded view that it's all rigged against us.

He did that to provide a stereotype in the courts for fast drivers. If you had a radar detector, your intention was probably to go fast.
